Did anyone catch the 1 hour program on the granddaddy of analog on Artsworld TV (Channel 267) on Sky this evening? It deals mostly with the minimoog (and it's predecessors - I think) but even for a non-muso like me it was interesting. I video-taped it but missed the first five minutes. Just lots of Bob talking to differnet prople who helped in the early concept and a bit of Rick Wakeman espousing it's faculties. There's also an interesting sequence showing a technician putting one together. Also I never knew it was pronounced mogue and not moog. Somehow polymogue doesn't sound right.

Polymogue sounds just fine to me mate. Then again, I'm the annoying bugger that corrects everyone anyway. The guy was Bob Moog (pron. Mogue as in Vogue) so to me it sounds just daft when I hear Minimoooooog or Polymoooog. That's Minimogue and Polymogue if you don't mind

Oh I ain't disagreeing Shaun but for all of my life I read it as moog and tonight in one show I found out I've been wrong for 27 years. My dreams are shattered and I'll never be the same person again. Now where did that Prufit 5 go?

I remember hearing a debate years ago, which concluded that it should be pronounced mogue, but for years before and after I still cant help pronouncing it mooog ! To me it's a bit like bucket & bouquet ! Sir Bob may have insisted it should be said with an "ogue" , but it is spelled "ooooog" Either way - the man sure made damn fine instruments ! & I would still love his stuff even if he invented the polybucket ! Oh - sorry should that be the polybouquet ! ;D ;D

Mogue You just try saying you own a Mogue Rogue and see who doesn't take the piss out of you. Anyway here's what i heard - can't remember which programme or article it was, you'll have to trust me on this. The name Moog is pronounced Moog, not Mogue. However, Bob's mum was a schoolteacher and the kids managed to use her name for the usual kiddy piss-take stuff we all do to teachers. So she changed the pronunciation to Mogue to divert the piss-takery (probably to some other hapless teacher called Mr Dick or Mr Hunt or some such). Or something.

Like that little girl in Grange Hill " I love you, Rowlaind!" Didn't the Roland guy (sorry can't remember his name) change the company name to Roland from Acetone because the Australians pronounced it Icetone? Great just change it to a name no Easterner can pronounce then Or something. PS. And we actually did have a Mr Hunt in my secondary school. Yep, we called him Mike. Ah, the fun we had, jumpers for goalposts...
