I agree Brass, it's law of diminishing returns. I suspect some of this stuff is just going round and round on ebay, getting progressively more knackered. Given tech costs, it's only the really high end stuff like 2600's, Minimoogs etc that are financialy worth major restoration and if you are doing a complete restore with modern replacement parts, have you lost the original character anyway? The modular route is probably the cheapest - a combined rack and keyboard such as an AS Sorceror, 3 oscillators, a low pass filter, Envelope , mixer and a VCA and you've got a Minimoog!
Update- for arguments sake i've just calculated a guestimate price for that lot from Analogue Systems, that comes to approx £1800. That's about the same price as a Moog Voyager Old School, except with exact replicas of 70's hardware. You would also get the facility for FM of oscillators, which you certainly can't do on an original Model D.

I know it's not good form to quote and reply to your own post when there are no other comments in between, but I just HAD to share this with you all: In a fit of what turned out to be stupidity in hindsight, I e-mailed the seller asking if he had the main circuit board to the MG-1, as I was looking for a dead or partially stripped board. He replied asking me to make an offer. My reply was since I had no idea what he would want for it was to send me his price. He replied saying that he "would have to get $200.00 for it". He claimed that it was working when he parted the synth out. I may be an idiot, but who parts out a WORKING synth? I smell fertilizer of the male bovine variety. I should have known better than to ask, but hope (and stupidity) springs eternal....

"I may be an idiot, but who parts out a WORKING synth?" - Brassteacher
People who believe they can make more profit selling a synth off as parts rather than as a whole working unit.
Some people couldn't care less whether they are destroying increasingly scarce working instruments when they can sell them off as parts to those of us who want to repair and restore the instruments we have.

I must say that I am guilty of a similar situation. Someone gave me a CS-80 and CS-60 (neither working) for a MOOG voyager RME. So I needed $1500 for the RME. What I did was sell 6 of the CS-60 voice cards which essentially paid for the RME. The rest I could use as parts to fix the CS-80. The sad thing is that I knew exactly what was wrong with the CS-60. It had a bad cap in the PSU. So essentially $2.00 would've fixed the CS-60, but then I would've lost a very valuable parts supply for the CS-80 repair. That was a tough call but I figured it would be more worthwhile. After I was done fixing the 80 I sold what was left of the CS-60 for about $1000 (lots of boards and switches) so I essentially got paid $1000 to take a CS-80 Thats not a normal situation though...

In this case, I wouldn't say "guilty". I think using one dead unit to revive another is perfectly fine. Besides, I do this all the time in my work, a lot of times out of necessity (Try repairing vintage Bang & Olfusen audio gear without buying a dead unit to strip for parts). Another couple of "for instances": I'm currently repairing a damaged Roland PG-200 by stripping parts out of a Tascam mixer I picked up at a junk store, and after MONTHS of trying to repair a Polymoog Keyboard (model 280A) and finally hitting a dad end when I ran into a nearly untraceable wiring harness issue and the necessity to replace more divider chips than I could afford (even the nice reproductions available), I decided to part it out so that other Polymoogs could live, and to recover the HUGE amount of money I spent on parts (don't tell my wife how much I spent). In fact, a large number of those parts have found their way into the synths of a couple members of this board .

Do you still have any of the parts?

For an 8 voice OB-X it's not too surprising to me.

Yes, but someones bought both of these! Ebay is truly a thing of wonder. I recently had a music shop near me refuse to sell for me (on commission!) a Crumar Trilogy with a slight filter issue (this was a week after he sold me a Nord Lead 2x on assurance he would sell the Crumar for me to part fund!)

Hi neo, Why not join the Crumar Yahoo Group, and post a "for sale" on there? (under Applications) Please note that all posts on there have to be approved by the moderators. (Me and Josh, mainly..) I added the "for sale / wanted" application a while back, but no-one's used it yet. Except me. Conservative lot.. Be the first!

Hi neo. I've added the Crumar's details to the "for Sale" section. Best of luck.
