A question for the techies on this site who include Numan in their music library.
As it doesn't seem possbile to raise questions on AFENET and expect a reasonable discussion. Can I ask here what you guys think of the clips posted on Numans website

Deeply disappointing. Just more of the same, I'm afraid. Whilst I have no problem with him developing and changing styles, this doesn't seem to have moved on at all, particularly from the last album. If those (admittedly small) samples are some of the highlights from the 50-odd songs he's written in preparation, God only knows what the rejected ones were like! Why can't he just lock himself in a room with a CR78, PMK, LM1, CP30, P5, OBXa and Ody? Sorry, I started drifting off then....

I was expecting a lot from the demoes after hearing about all the great strides forward in the sounds that he was talking about.
I can't hear much progression from anything else over the last 5 years tbh. Same guitars, wails, atmospheres. And I'd rather he concentrated on getting his best versions of his songs on the album and then think about reworking some of them (if he has to) for other releases.
"I'll write an album's worth of songs and then get OTHER people to play around with them and then release those too!". Yeah great.
Not my idea of writing an album should be about but hey, what do I know...

Yes, he missed out the JP-4 and Minimoog Not really amazing demos, but on a positive note i didn't hear any M1 or D-50 patches in there. God i wish he'd burn that Alesis - it's not a synth fer crisakes. Get something with knobs Gazza. Every now and then he threatens to pull out his OB-Xa which he still has (had?). Looking at that kit list i reckon between the lot of us he could get a better production coming round our houses. Also, and i have to admit to being guilty of this sometimes, there is a tendency, what with having all this computer mallarky, to spend too long on a track resulting in over-production of ideas which can lead to: A) losing the original 'vibe' of a track (sometimes rougher is better) B) over-complex arrangements with so many layers it becomes a wall of mush (often less is more - where's the space in your mixes Gary?) Now I'm Just a novice at this music production and likely to stay that way, but my ears are reasonably good. I get "the wall of sound" concept but surely the clips are just a confused muddle. More is less. That is the sort of mistake I make all the time. 10 VST's layered on top of each other are not better than 1 good sound.

...10 VST's layered on top of each other are not better than 1 good sound. I'd say that was a fair observation there Joe. As for the clips. Give Gazzrick a weekend in a studio 26 years ago and he'd come out with four songs that were quirky, unique and with the kind of melody you would be turning round in your head for days. Give him 5 years in studio 26 years later and you get two songs that follow an already outmoded "nu-metal" formula that are badly produced, badly mixed and totally tuneless and forgetable. That bloke that claims "the real Numan was abducted by aliens in 1981 and replaced by a clone" may have a point

I hoped he had gotten bored of the sound he was pursuing or had remembered his forte. Not fan of the current sound/themes of his at all. I think he needs to do what Depeche Mode have just done, get in the studio with guy who produced their new album, and get it done swiftly(that guy works fast according to the making of album documentary in order to keep it fresh) ,and make all analogue sounding yet clear with distinct tunes, and no more "god" related lyrics... Just my Opinion.

I agree totally with the "no more god lyrics" It seems strange that someone who considers himself an atheist finds it so necessary to write again and again about god. What happed to the aliens, robots and other paranoid style lyrics Gary ?
