I'm fiddling with a new idea but I'm having a dilema as to whether I'm starting off on the right foot. I've used a slow drum beat with a fairly fast bassline. I'm playing with a few ideas for melody etc but can I ask for any comments on just the drum and bass so far (as I dont want to flogg a dead horse). The drums and bass are created through Orion, but the melodies will be via analogue synths. This small (50 second) snippet only has parts of the drum and bass on it, cos that's the bit I'm not sure about at the moment. www.dannymoog.co.uk/MindPart.wmaAny comments welcome ;D Cheers

Yeah, it works but what you can do for your choruses is to put a double time big beat on to up the pace, then drop it off again for your verses. Half/Doubletime loops are the oldest trick in the book mate and work well

The beat is wrong,it needs to be double the time. Rather than a straight 4/4 beat why not try something like Orbital do or 808 State?

It's comming along quite well (if slowly) I've taken on board the comments above and have done a faster drum pattern section and am spending alot of time on the eq's/effects etc to try and keep it crisp. So far I've got Kraftwerk influenced basslines, with bit of Depeche Mode topping and the main over tunes are a wash with pure & phased Polymoog (Numan stylie) in my "DOOM" note stylie If that all makes sence As soon as I've done all the main bits I will post up a clip ;D Thanks for asking ;D

Hi, I think it sounds great so far but as you wanted comments, here are a few: 1. I think you should use some other drum sounds - more electronic sounding (perhaps a layered tr808 and cr78? Or just play around with layering different beat boxes for that nice electronic sound) as, i think, this would fit better with the rather Kraftwerky bassline. 2. I would consider shortening the delay on the bassline or at least turn feedback down a bit - its easy to get caught in a swamp of bass echoes later on in the creation/mixing process. And although a delayed bassline sounds amazing in isolation it is seldom a good idea to overdo it. 3. As im a real s/h-nut i'd accompany the filter movement in the bassline with a slight s/h - just to get a bit more 'life' in those regions. Hope i havent offended you with my suggestions and that you find them useful. /rm
