Well Martin, you've been getting far too many favourable reviews from me of late. If you were looking for the fine line between experimental electro landscapes and self-indulgent gratuitous twaddle... you just stomped right over it. It sounds terrible... like it's been mixed by a rabid gorilla on crack. What is it with the EQ on the Polymoog Martin? In my experience that sound just sits lovely in a mix AS IS and really REALLY doesn't need any EQ at all. If it isn't EQ then you seriously need to have another word with Tony Allgood. The Poly is rich, warm, ballsy and delicate. All I can hear is a thin distorted screeching . It's boring ... I was listening to it for about a minute and then started reading my emails before I realised it had been widdling on for far too long without going anywhere and turned it off. Complete and utter rubbish ;D Love ya really (most of the time)

Its alright. I dont see why others are slagging it off. Those keys sound a bit dated but its not THAT bad.

Shaun, your reply is rather vague,i can't work out whether you like the track or not #axe# You're like an SAS instructor and i'm a raw recruit who you feel needs pushing to the limit to extract the best out of but you've just caught me not taking training seriously enough so you've made me run around in front of everyone wearing some frilly pink knickers. I wouldn't have it any other way ;D

It sounds terrible... like it's been mixed by a rabid gorilla on crack. So that's where the fucker came from. Ran straight in front of my car and threw a pair of blown NS10s at me as I drove through Kendal today. Not as bad as Herr Dubmeister makes out Martin, but that Poly does sound unpleasant. Knowing you that's probably intentional

Martin knows the score. I was running through some potential insults I could throw at it on the way into work today. When I came up with "rabid gorilla on crack" I broke into a broad grin so I knew I had to use it He just trounced me with the image of him running about a parade square in pink frilly knickers. I nearly spat out my supper reading that... NO NEED!!! ;D

You,ve got me a bit paranoid about the poly though #horror# DRY+PHASEDRYThese are straight into the soundcard from the polymoog. I did eq it on the track i posted so can you let me know if these clips sound better (fingers crossed cos i'm not sure i've got the bottle to tell tony he may need to get involved with another polymoog)

Jesus that's not right Martin! The modulation's all over the place - far too fast and I'm not sure you haven't got a non-modulating oscillator. That sounds way out of calibration Can't comment on the recording - doesn't sound too bad, though like mine it sounds a bit overdriven (mine has a little 'edge' even with all octave balance sliders right down). High clip to follow, but I had this lying around already... Okay here's the high clip. Straight into the soundcard in mono, no phase no eq no nuffin.

You,ve got me a bit paranoid about the poly though #horror# Oh no. The mod's all wrong - the PWM is not working right (the square wave rank sounds too hollow) and the vibrato is too fast. Sorry mate :-(

The mod's all wrong - the PWM is not working right (the square wave rank sounds too hollow) Which is exactly what was wrong with mine, if you recall, caused by a resistor on the TL board being changed to match the specification in the service manual. Except the service manual is wrong. I wonder...

If you can remember the clips i posted before it went up to tony, you'll recall it sounded awful.
The difference when i got it back was so much better i didn't realise it still wasn't quite right.
I've still got the minimoog and the 203a to pick up so i will mention what's been said on here ;D

I'd play him the clips Martin so he knows what to go on and also ask Jords for the link to the CORRECTED service manual so he knows what the proper resistor value should be ;D

I always meant to add a correction note to the manual I produced but couldn't remember which resistor it was or what value it should be. Unless Col can recollect I doubt we'll be able to say for certain without an unmolested board and a modified one side-by-side to compare

I've sent him my clip along with jordans but i put them under 2 cups and shuffled them around a bit to see if he can guess which is the dud ;D

Only just read this. Yeah Martin it's sick for deffo.
For sure some modulation issues going on there probably pwm related. Possibly calibration.
The resistor is R18 Jordan if you want to correct the manual. The circuit diagram puts it at 51 ohms and it should be 510.

I'll try Col - it'll mean trying to remember who's hosting the file for me though!
OK on the schemos we're looking at the PWM hi vs lo balance circuits, yes? I see that R18 is 51K and R24 is 510K, where you might expect them to be the same (wouldn't you?). But also pin 2 off each 3080 is different - R17 is 5K and R23 is 50K. Do you think the 5K is incorrect too?
