Top stuff! I actually just bought Jagged last Friday night. I've only heard it once. I like the idea of covering new Gary Numan songs with Polymoogs, etc in his old style. Might be fun to cover From Russia Infected in the style of his new dark direction. And then cover something from Replicas in the style of New Anger or Machine + Soul. We would need the backup ladies, saxophone, and what was that horrible synthesizer?

Interesting but why do you keep trying to bury Louise's vocals. Is it her who wants to be placed so low in the mix and have so much processing.
I recall an interview with Trent reznor who claims his engineer used to scream fuck off every time Trent's finger strayed near the vocals fader as he habitually turned himself down.
On another tack entirely, as you seem to be serious about this music thing. Have you though about set lists? Most of what you post is pretty low BPM stuff. I was just wondering how you want your audience to react. Your music certainly doesn't call for a mosh pit but do you want them to stand looking pensive for the whole gig?

Some very interesting points raised there, thanks everyone The whole track started about 6 weeks ago with the sole intention of doing it "telekon"style. As usual i'm crap at trying to recreate things so it ended up in my style I was quite happy with the verses but i couldn't get the chorus's anywhere near what i wanted(vocals+music) So i left the song for a month until yesterday when i had another go. This is the reason there is so much proccessing on the vocals in the chorus Any normal person would just get louise to redo the vocals but her time is very scarce lately and i'm very impatient(something iam trying to cure The live thing is on a bit of a back seat at the moment. I knew the "slowness of our stuff wasn't going down well live(especially where we live)so we tried adding slightly uptempo covers,a move which i regretted as i felt i was "giving in". So,back to my own style i went and a couple of gigs were turned down until i can learn how to create original tracks with a bit more variety and some more upbeat sections It's a long, long road, with many a winding turn #musik14#

A brave attempt Martin and some lovely sounds but Louise had no chance on this. She's struggling desperately with the melody for two reasons: 1. The song isn't in her key, it's too low for her... (easiliy sorted by transposing it semitone by semitone until you hear her reaching the notes comfortably). 2. You left her with bugger all to pitch from (again ) so she's all over the place. It would be easier for you to record the vocal melody for her during recording and remove it after the take. I think those two thing really show in the take. Louise sounds like she's there under sufferance rather than "feeling the song". In her shoes I would feel the same. Musically... you need more layers mate and don't think burying a chorus in reverb will make it sound bigger. Quite the opposite in fact. It makes it sound farther away and weaker for it. If you want a strong chorus add strong sounds and bring them right up in your face ;D

I like the idea of covering new Gary Numan songs with Polymoogs I confess first thing I did after hearing Jagged was play Haunted again with Polymoog over the top. Not that I mind the sound he used anyway, but, well, you know... Shaun's advice on this version sounds spot on to me Martin. I didn't comment on the track's shortcomings because Shaun's so much better at it (I was thinking of comments like 'vox aren't too great, chorus needs to bang in harder' See? #concussed# ). I am though still highly impressed by these atmospheric soundscapes you come up with. If you can sort those 'issues' out and keep plugging away at your production skills you'll really be onto something. Keep at it lad! #beerchug#

Yeah, that does sound like a Polymoog on a lot of Jagged. One or two songs especially. I gave Jagged another listen last night, and I don't think there's a single song that I like on it. There are some moments, but overall, I feel like I'm listening to NIN or a Hollywood techno-thriller action flick.

The thing is i know shaun and everyone else's advice is right and i knew it before i posted the track but with me i try and try to get something right by adding, tweaking, pushing and pulling till i get to a point where i say "sod it,it's as good as i'm gonna get it" Then i post it up here knowing i'm not entirely happy with it. What i should do is pinpoint the weak parts and re-do them. It's a bit like having a massive meal but some of the items are undercooked or just don't taste right, normal people would remove them and replace them but i just cover them in gravy and tomato ketchup It's so simple So WHY don't i do it? Thanks again everyone,it's turned into quite an interesting thread #pintslugger#

I was listening to Lisa Germano in the car this evening and this really reminds me of her stuff. Well done.
