Too much information?. Definitely! #oh-shit# Not sure about the ahh choir (is that the 'Shout' one?) but the best Fairlight work for me is Kate Bush's Hounds of #lurve# - stunning stuff on side 2 Any other fave Fairlight choices out there?

Yes they used it on Junk Culture, Crush and The Pacific Age. Isn't that their late stuff? I was going to say they used an Emulator earlier on for sure - the choirs on Joan of Arc and so on. Seems we're both right... Wait a minute - the choirs and that are Mellotron aren't they? Maybe it was Emulator for on the road.

Jordan, they used a Mellotron on Architecture and Morality, an Emulator I and a Mellotron for Dazzleships, a Mellotron, Fairlight and Emulator II for Junk Culture (1984), Crush (1985) and The Pacific Age (1986). ;D

i actually did a course at Birmingham Universtiry on the MkII, learnt to program Page R and everything. i have a dodgy cassette of our experimental noodlings somewhere - i'll try and dig it out. i remember how realistic i thought the 8 bit (?) cellos sounded - orchestras are dead i cried! Actually my Fairlight knowledge lead me to a classic comedy interview with a producer called Ian Levine for a studio assistant. First off i was about 25 at the time and i arrive for the interview to a small room full of about ten 16 year olds. The guy hadn't staggered the interviews - he obviously didn't care. It was like that Peter Sellers scene in the lift with everyone eyeing each other up suspiciously. Another 16 year old kid walks into this room, looks around and immediately just left - he wasn't wasting his time. i stuck it out and when interviewed was told by Mr Levine how many nimber one hits he'd had, how he'd produced Diana Ross last week. Huh? Why you wanna impress me for? When it came to the thorny question of pay it was a princely £80 a week - with whatever stupid hours the musos wanted to do. i put on my best poker face - didn't react, said "OK" very slowly and left. Needess to say i didn't get the job
