Ok Gang, Crazy Idea Of The Day:
I may be acquiring a mostly rebuilt MG-1 soon. I have it on loan to me at the moment, and I had forgotten just how much fun the thing is to play, and how cool it sounds.
Sitting around with it today, experimenting with all kinds of "stuff" on the thing, like filter sweeps, I had a "Mad scientist" moment. #devil01#
My Polypedal is up for sale right now on eBay, but now I'm very tempted, in case it doesn't sell (The catch-22 is that the Polypedal would finance the MG-1) is to modify the MG-1 to accept all the functions available on the Polypedal. In other words, mod the MG-1 to be controllable by the Polypedal. This was mainly inspired by the fact that the filter controls are on the far right of the control panel, so if you want to do filter sweeps/adjustments as you are playing, you have to cross your arms over (If you are right-handed), and it really gets uncomfortable if you are playing in the lower octave.
What do you guys think about such a project? If I get my Minitmoog going, I'm tempted to do the same to it as well.

Sounds like a great idea to me, given that I can't have your PP

Sounds like a great idea to me, given that I can't have your PP It's still up for sale on ebay until the 11th. There's no reserve on it other than the opening bid. Besides, if someone buys it, that means I can DEFINITELY get the MG-1 #joannaman#

The cheaper option would be to learn to play with your left hand.
btw, has the black foam which turns to glue been removed from inside that MG-1?

The cheaper option would be to learn to play with your left hand. btw, has the black foam which turns to glue been removed from inside that MG-1? I have NO coordination in my left hand! #bergleblergle# I've been a trumpet player for over 35 years, so instead of hand-eye coordination being trained in that hand, it has simply been an instrument holder! Not only has the goo been removed, the current owner bought and installed one of those slider/switch kits off eBay! #thumbsup# He also installed a simple mod that is EXACTLY what I would have done: He added a fine tune pot on the control panel for the detune function. Not only can you tune the two tone sources to different intervals, now you can tune them perfectly BEATLESS, and IT DOESN'T DRIFT!!!! #banana# He also has already removed the RCA jack and replaced them with Neutrik 1/4" jacks. The only thing I would have left to do to it is to replace all the old electrolytics, and double-check calibration, since the current owner doesn't own a scope. Oh yeah, I need to find a "Black Key" to replace the missing highest Bb. The key isn't broken, it's completely gone. Also, if I do convert it to use the Polypedal, that would mean I could play with the LFO and the filter at the same time, since they are on opposite ends of the top panel. #joannaman# My biggest concern about taking this on though is that I have a TON of projects going on already, and if this one turns out to be a nightmare logistically after I dig into it, I don't want the poor thing to sit unfinished for a couple years...

Shouldn't be too hard, there's plenty of room on the back of the MG-1 for extra sockets. I have quite a few mods on mine: S-Trig socket converted to V-Trig VCO1/2/Noise direct out Filter/VCO CV in LFO rate adjust switch (for slow filter sweeps) Filter/Osc Mod Amt adjustment VCO 2 only pitch mod (only really useful when sync is switched on) VCO 1/2 PWM controls (plus CV inputs)
All works alright except I am getting a bit of DC (?) when the filter is switched too rapidly, not sure if it's the mods or something else has gone wrong. Oh, and I tuned everything up nicely including the keyboard voltage so I don't have to retune it when using the external CV input. I'm not a big fan of the keyboard action or note priority on the MG-1 so I use an external controller mostly but I like to get the fuller sound with the poly voice as well at times.

Oh, I mean VCO1/2 PW controls not PWM You can adjust the pulse waveform on each from about 0-95% Somehow I ended up with VCO1 and 2 PW the opposite way around... But it works well that way
