I post when i can but not as often as i'd like to. What i mean by that is,if it's a technical post that i don't know the answer to or a track that i don't feel i can add anything constructive to,then i don't reply. But i feel sorry for the person who started the thread when noone replies Do you think the forum's doing ok shaun?

Not really Martin, that's why I posted the questionnaires. It seemed to be doing great by itself a month back and I was hoping to sit back and let it run itself for a bit. I've been away about a week now (other things) and come back to find a ghost town to be honest. It could just be a blip (holidays or something) but the only new members are either that spammer from the other day or yet more lurkers (no need) and a lot of the regulars are dropping in but not posting either. If the novelty has worn off, I want to give anyone that has a real use for the site an opportunity to tell me how to make it better. If not, I'll save my pennies and join My Space

I've been away and walked into a shitty minefield of relative crap when i returned hence why i'm not around much.
For me the best time was the track colaborations where someone posted a bare bones and we all added. Numan or otherwise

I've been away and walked into a shitty minefield of relative crap when i returned hence why i'm not around much. That's gonna put people off posting more than ever Trouble is,once you've asked, what did numan use on this track?,what did kraftwerk use on that track?,why doesn't my polymoog work?,then you've just about exhausted the subject. You could have a section where we can talk about non music related stuff? But they tend to end up in verbal warfare If you were to try and explain this site to anyone you'd have to say,"basically it's about old analogue music gear" I love it here, but it's not a very broad spectrum to entice weird people who don't own a polymoog ;D

Most forums have quiet periods, I`m a super mod on a photgraphic web site with over 3,500 members and that has its quiet moments on where not very people post, tbh I think that there is nothing wrong at all here, this is a site for vintage synth folk, and for me this is the best one I`ve come across, maybe some of you may not agree, its friendly, no back stabbing, and even though Dubsounds is the only site for the serious Polymoog user (as far as I know), there are shite loads of other musical aspects we can talk about.
This is a unique site and a unique forum, with unique members, and these are becoming harder to find by the day.Believe me!!!!!!
I`d rather have the usual bunch here, than say a load of twats talking about the Roland D-50 pan pipe fundaments which they do on other forums.
Analoug will never die, we ALL know that, and neither will Dubsounds.

Well i've had a good year of work - which means less posting, almost no music done, so i feel like a bit of a slacker and i don't feel like i have anything to post at the moment. i mean in the last few of months i've worked on Wimbledon, O2 Festival (saw Goldfrapp and Depeche Mode for free), V-Festival (got to see Radiohead sound-checking), Electric Picnic in Ireland (saw our Gazza), various pop and sports shows, gone to various Numan gigs, had a two week holiday in Ireland, went to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, just started rehearsals with a new guitar/noise band and am going surfing next week, so after that i'm taking it a bit easy as i'm bit knackered and will probably be around bit more.
Maybe to attract non-Polymoog owners (of which i'm one), perhaps the site could broaden its spectrum and be more obviously about analogue kit, maybe some histories like the Polymoog one but for the JP-4, CR-78, Ody etc. and maybe a drum machine section. i think the forums are OK - i'll definitely have a think about it, but it's going to be the main site that draws people to the forums i think.

I figured Shaun might bring this up soon I think it's just a series of coincidental bits of Real Life that have created a bit of slack round here, plus as Martin said the (doubtless temporary) absence of burning subjects to discuss. For my part since getting back off me hols I've been utterly obsessed with trying to find a cheeky little motah for Sunday blatting, so I've been living on Pistonheads rather than here. Went to view a TR6 today for example

I agree with Russ in that I don;t think there is anything wrong with this forum, and that all forums go through quiet periods. When you think that there are actually less than 200 members - it is quite active most of the time. I have checked out many music forums, but it is Dubsounds that I check into every day. The knowledge, the enthusiasm, the non backstabbing, the sharing, the honesty etc are what makes the difference for me. This forum is totally unique and IMO has the best mix of members the world wide web has to offer. Sure it would be great if more people joined up and more members posted regularly, but most posts on this forum are interesting and worth reading, as apposed to some forums that are full of crap and spam. If forums were like cars, Dubsounds would be a big 1950's pink Cadillac & it don't get much better than that for me! I like the new additions of "20 most recent posts" and "users online during the last 24 hours" . The idea of more info on Classic drum machines or other great synths is very appealing. However, this would need some of the members to volunteer to do samples, write reviews, take more pics, link/scan in things like user manuals, patch sheets etc. So if anyone would like to volunteer to do something like that around their favorite synth - I'm sure we would all appreciate it. ;D I'm happy to do some more stuff on say the Synthex ? I;ve got the manuals and have already sent in sound clips and pics etc. I would be willing to do more if members want it ? Anyone else want to volunteer to show off a bit of their kit ? (music kit that is! ) The music collaborations was another great thing when it happened. I still listen to CRY now and still love it. ;D Consider this though my fellow Dubsounions: How many other places can you get FREE samples, FREE advice, FREE guidance, FREE information on classic synths, A gentleman's agreement on ebay bidding between members, people looking out for spare parts or complete synths for other members, honest comments on your latest music track, PDF's of service manuals and patch sheets etc etc etc. Also how many members of this site have actually met up and had a laugh together - sparked new friendships and been encouraged to try new things or try harder with their own music styles ? Perhaps the most telling success of this forum for me is that if I hadn't joined up and talked to/met up with some of the members here I would not be as involved in making music as I am now. To me, there is no better compliment than inspiring people to make more music, or inspiring people to just keep these classic vintage sound machines alive! There's no money making going on here, it is all about the love of classic synths. As Cartman once said " I LOVE YOU GUYS " ;D

Thank you for your responses guys. I think Antony is extremely accurate with regard to the big fat POLYMOOG button on the main site. It does make this place look very minority interest indeed. I will consider adding new sections for the Jupiter 4 among others. I don't relish having to do the amount of research I had to do when I wrote the Polymoog history (between jobs) but sound pages and a little info along with horny pics will certainly help. Thank you

Danny, I really apreciate the efforts you, Colin and Jordan put into the site. I would LOVE to receive samples/sound clips from people of their gear. If anything it might curb my spending a bit I would ask anyone who can possibly contribute to do so. If you have a hard to find PDF manual, a drum machine I don't own (I've made it clear how I sample them, i.e playing the patterns at the slowest tempo for 8 bars or so). I am more than happy to take raw wav files and make up rx2 files or mapped AKP's if I can. It's just recording the kit in the first place that I need. ANy old adverts/brochures you could scan. Anything really... just post up what you can donate.

I don't post as much as I'd like to:
I agree with the other comments ie, quality over quantity - Dubsounds is by far the best forum I frequent, with decent, helpful and knowledgeable members, and like Dan says, contains interesting posts worth reading. The music contributions and collaborations are also of outstanding quality, and inspire rookies like myself to improve and work on their own creations and,(eventually) contribute too. As far as responding to threads, If I can add something to a thread subject,I will, although often most requests have been answered by the time I log on(due to my time zone , GMT -8hrs).
Shaun - I agree with you thoughts that a little homepage re-vamp may create a bit more more interest and traffic.
Keep up the good work.

Johnny, I apreciate that mate ;D I was just telling Danny in an email about the ideas I'm having for the revamp. The Polymoog button on the main menu is going to be replaced by a button that says "Resources" Inside you will then get stuff like this: 1. Owners Manuals 2. Classic Brouchures & Advertising 3. Jupiter 4 Zone 4. The Polymoog Owners Club (the Poly section as it is now) 5. Planet Oberheim 6. Prophets of Boom 7. The Synthex Quadrant 8. Effects etc... It can get as deep as I want it to really. I'll just keep adding sections as I get offered more content.

i'll just add my 2pence........ Dubsounds is a breath of fresh air....as has been mentioned above already, this place is a haven for like minded synthfans to bleat about (i feel) anything synth related. i know there is a heavy slant on the poly, but i've never felt like i'd get flamed if i wanted to ask a question or mention any other synths i fancied. my sickly poly would have ended up as a coffee table if it wasn't for colin....and jords was instrumental in me obtaining my jp4 ( being fixed by allgood resurections ltd as we speak), i've never come across so many altruistic people. a few years ago i had a large collection of vintage arcade games (defender/space invaders, type stuff) and was a member of the UKVAC forum, but the whole thing seemed to revolve around prices of games and blasting people for their opinions, until it decended into chaos and broke apart....i subscribed to AH for a while, and it was interesting to read some of the posts, but i rarely felt like i could reply or submit my own posts as it was very techy and there was a distinct lack of humour (i thought), there seemed to be some major peronality clashes occasionally too. here though there is a genuine comeraderie here that in my experience is a rare thing and i hope we can preserve it for our children and our childrens children on into eternity.....or at least for a while anyhow.
