Well i won't give the game away too early but i hear bass and smoothness in the first, no bass and slightly piercing high note in the second.

I find the top E convincing in both (on a laptop speaker) but the bass in the second is buzzy and thinner.
How do you know when your poly is perfectly calibrated?

When it sings like a bird The procedure is painstakingly laid out in the service manual. You check all the components are working at the correct "factory spec" values and if not, you calibrate or replace them. As for laptop speakers Go out immediately and buy some compact quality speakers for it. I just bought a Bose system for my new notebook and although it's a little more to lug around, I'm happy to suffer that and not have to put up with that thin rasp that laptop manufactuers should be prosecuted under "trade descriptions" for calling "speakers"

Shaun, The volume of the second part is to low + compared to the original E0 sample it even lacks more bass. The PK was serviced one week before I sampled it somewhere in Breda (Holland). I forgot the name of the company. There is a difference in the lower notes. Yours sounds warmer, just like it has been recorded on a HQ analog recordingdesk. Running it through a frequency analyzer here (I'm not at home so used the free USB portable audacity version ). Both first 5 seconds of the sample : Freq range part1 stops at 14Khz. The one I recorded goes beyond the 20Khz limit. Did you route it through something? Maybe it was callibrated wrong, maybe something else. Here is a snippet I did with a Korg Radias and the Vox Humana blofeld version directly to mp3. No mastering effects or whatever used. www.vstream.be/mp3/films.mp3I'll see if I can record another version like the replicas intro with that beautiful E0 note. It's not that I want an exact replica of the polymoog Keyboard , that's just impossible but a reliable alternative to use on stage or even in the studio and IMHO it's very good. For 450 Euro you can have an alternative, when you already own a master controller. Totally agree with the laptop speakers! If you want something portable, and very good sounding I can recommend this: www.jbl.com/home/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=JBL%20ON%20TOURIt looks like they a 'toys' but I can assure you these are the best 'little' speakers I have ever heard.

Joeri, you are correct, my Polymoog was recorded through a good analogue desk directly into pro tools but the channel strip was completely flat I can assure you. Your version was played within pro tools using the soundfont version. Once again flat but with a bit of attack added only. I can understand that it does sound better on the Blofeld and your clip proves that. Once again, I can only go back to the differences in the filter calibration. The top end does indeed roll off gradually as you play down the keyboard on all the Polymoogs I've played, (about 5 or six different examples to date). That's how the filter is supposed to be set. It sounds like the filter was wide open on the one you used but hey... it's dead easy for you to roll off the top on the lower notes and boost the bass with the Blofeld so you haven't really got a problem. Not as unreliable as you might suspect. This "old lady" survived a Nine Inch Nails Gig www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1757514322#/album.php?aid=3565&id=1757514322When Martin got it home again, it still plays perfectly ;D

yes! That was cool. A real polymoog kb. Just back home and changed the filter settings. According to the keyboard zone I close the filter and now it sounds very close to the original as you can hear on the mp3 example. Recorded dry directly from the blofelds outputs. www.vstream.be/mp3/Polymoog_dry_blofeld_keytrack_filter.mp3IMHO I like the 'non' calibrated version more. It gives you more possibilities: close the filter with aftertouch, add some resonance, ... I can assign the 'filter' settings to a midi control channel so best of two worlds. A few days ago I also simulated the PK velocity. Hard: fast attack, slow: slower attack, also with a parameter depending on where you hit the keyboard. I find it very unnatural to play. Joeri

Joeri Yes, I agree that it probably is more versatile having an open filter at source. Your mp3 clip certainly sounds better ;D I can assure you, you get used to it. As you may recall, the keys on a Poly are weighted so that does tend to help with "the feel"
