I don't know if you can face a trip to afenet but the main players also feature in a 4 page thread there. All very afenet-ish. Curious as in staring at a car crash sort of way.

i find it hard to go to AFENet these days - i'm into positivity, well being and being civil - none of which finds its way onto that site of sad NLBs. AFE Net? i shit 'em! Mind you i may have to pop over now out of curiosity (if i can remember my old log in)

Wow, I just tried the soundfont and it sounds really good! But there's just one problem.... what about the VST the Overstate2007 has worked so hard on? 99% of people who would have bought it only would have done so for Vox Humana, and now that it's free......

Yeah, it's a pity but it just took too long to get it together. If Clinton had finished it at Christmas, it would have had a head-start on the rompler based versions that are appearing now.
Unfortunately, I doubt the VST emulation will sell at all now, (despite having a beautiful GUI and a great sound).
Cest la vie.

i,ve managed to get a corking VH from my roland jv -80, ill upload a clip tomorrow, we'll go for something different, like um the replicas intro, (ha ha ) i think it s better than the virus, but i'll leave that decision up to you, ps afenet is not a good place to go at the moment, debs and the management need to step in and do some serious spanking.

ps afenet is not a good place to go at the moment, debs and the management need to step in and do some serious spanking. It's hasn't been a good place to be for years. Shaun setting up here was exactly what was needed to escape the twunts.

I didn't know Debs was a mod. Shows how much I keep up with what's going on.
I still serve a spanking (as you put it) in the Studio forum and take action when I get complaints to do with the Gen Store but it's Rob's website and he's the one who has a responsibility for it. If he wants to set it up and bugger off leaving it to descend into its current state it's in, (which he has pretty much) then that's his call.

I am probably wrong then. i thought debs was a mod. maybe she runs the welcome thread, met her at shepherds Bush, very pleasant lady, and i love the spank you gave the other day and shut the thread down, that was like "shit!!! Dads home" i feel sorry for the guy that was talking bout his polymoog vst, i say round em all up, put them in a field, and BTB!!!

that proteus vx sounds quite nice, i assume there is a filter you can adjust on it, cos its a bit "buzzy" dont you think

Just spent the better part of the afternoon playing the Replicas intro with the downloaded samples and my mxr phase100. Now i'm off the spend the evening doing the same thing .

I downloaded the samples too. I was quite surprised to find they've been heavily filtered. The top end is very over the top, (actually sounds enhanced or re-synthesised) and the bottom two octaves have fuck all bass in comparison to the real thing.
Add to that the graininess introduced by the digital sampling and I have to say... good luck getting the bass rumble and smooth soaring lead on Replicas. It's a bit like driving a Skoda and pretending it's an Aston Martin.
Apologies to any Skoda drivers.

Have they done the classic mistake and not used the direct outputs. How many times have we said...

Have they done the classic mistake and not used the direct outputs. How many times have we said... No they're from the Direct. I haven't played them myself but the demos sounded as per Shaun's observations - waaaaay too bright. A real unprocessed PMK is a lot smoother.

Why do people feel the need to tweak with a classic sound? Leave the fucking thing alone. Straight 24 bit samples. Job done. Oh well.

Hello,
Joeri Peeters here.
Why do people feel the need to tweak with a classic sound. The the fucking thing alone. Straight 24 bit samples. Job done. Oh well.
The Vox Humana is not tweaked at all. It was originally recorded in 24bit 96 khz wav files and converted afterwards to 16bit 44.1Khz and only looped seamlessly. No EQ's, compressors or whatever were used, nothing. It was recorded as close to the 0db limit without clipping so even a normalisation was not necessary.
The final sound of course depends on the kind of reverb, delaysettings, whatever. Even the VH sounds on all Gary Numan albums sound different, some songs EQ'd higher and some not. Some with our without reverb.
Just play the dry wav's and compare them with a recording you make. There shouldn't be much difference.
I agree with Shaun that it lacks a little bit of bass in the lower registers. Why? I don't know. IMHO the blofeld version sounds terrific! I used an extra sine oscillator (only in the lower registers) to boost the bass.
All versions just sound different, the rolands, yamaha's , proteus... The proteus-VX is programmed when hitting a key the sample starts at a different place triggered by a random parameter. Another random parameter fine tunes the pitch of every note. This is also done with the alchemy version.
It will never sound like the real thing but to be honest I am extremely happy I can take my small blofeld desktop on stage.
To everyone having a beautiful PK280A. I'm jealous... This is absolutely a collectors item you should never sell!
Joeri

In that case Joeri (and you might want to look away now) I would suggest that the Polymoog you sampled from was out of calibration mate Mine sounds much richer and a lot more bassier and that was restored to perfection only recently. The sound can change if the unit isn't constantly maintained. I apologise for insinuating that you'd filtered the sounds. That was the only conclusion I could draw from the sound difference. Now it seems apparent that the filter on the machine you sampled wasn't set to factory spec. Sorry to be a downer.
