Still blade runner ;D (not the orchestral version but the vangelis one, cd-wise), mind you this is still missing the opening music which, is not Vangelis and I've never been able to find.

I agree absolutely Joe. I also love that tacky arabic disco music he made for "Taffy's Bar" with the CR-8000 splashy cymbals ;D I managed to get hold of the original un-editted music... not the Vangelis CD, this one is definately illegal . It plays like the movie but without any dialogue. It's really cool. You can put it on quiet in the background while you work and it's almost like you're in the movie

I agree with "Blade Runner" too, with John Carpenters "Escape from New York" and "Halloween" not far behind. Loved the synth sounds on Carpenters movies - does anyone know what synth was used for the Halloween main theme?

I heard that Assault On Precinct 13 (my own favourite Carpenter movie and theme) was all ARP Quadra. The Polymoog like string melody would back that I guess as I'd know divide down technology anywhere now

I used to really like the score to zombie flesheaters which was composed by Fabrio Frizzi,i'm not sure how much of it was synths, but i remember thinking it was suitably weird

it ain't 'pure' synth but if anyone likes oddness and horror then the 'Goblin' soundtracks to Dario Argeto's 'Suspiria' and 'Deep Red' are pretty prog-synthtastic. www.progreviews.com/reviews/display.php?rev=gob-sus ......and yes blade runner is still king of the pops! cs80 init? although if i could own one synth featured in a film it'd have to be 'TONTO' in Brain De Palama's 'Phantom of the Paradise'.... ....although i guess i'd settle for the ARP 2500 monster in Close Encounters if i was desparate.

Shaun, you are right, how could I over look "assault on precinct 13" - Classic Carpenter. BTW, I found the soundtrack for Halloween 2(1981) in my collection. It lists kit used as: Prophet-10 Prophet-5 ARP Avatar(2) ARP Quadra (like you suggested on "assault") ARP sequencer Roland CSQ-600 Sequencer Sequential Circuits 700 programmer Linn LM-1 drum computer +Mutron Phasor, MXR DDL,Furman reverb, parametrics etc. Another theme I quite like, although not synth based, is the "Silent Hill" theme, but does originate from a video game, so I'll give it the benefit of doubt. Moreover, I did find a midi sequence of the theme, plugged it in to the kit, and sounded pretty decent, even with minimal tweaking. Have not seen or heard the movie yet, but it is out on DVD here this week, so I may check it out.

The theme from assault got me into music and synths. I remember being a young teenager and trying to recreate carpenters theme using a casio vl-tone and a BBC sound effects LP. I "multi tracked" by looping the output from a cheap ghetto blaster back into its own mic input while adding a new track into the line record. Crap quality but it worked. I also knocked up a passable version of Stanlow the same way. When you don't know somehting shouldn't work it can really help!!!
