The other day I was trolling around craigslist in Toronto and found someone selling a collection of Gary Numan records. I contacted and met up with him to find he had a crate of 70 Gary Numan records dating from the late 70's to the late 80's. I couldn't beleive it. He had tripples of some albums in black, red, and white vinyl as well as tonnes of singles and picture discs and 7inches. Also the live tour albums. I had no idea Gary Numan did a Frank Sinatra cover all covered in Polymoogs. I bought the whole lot for $60. Lots of rare shit in there. Anyway....I'll spend some time encoding some of it for those interested.

On Broadway was by the Drifters, (written by George "Give Me The Night" Benson) although Ol' Blue Eyes would have crooned a version at some point I wouldn't waste too much time ripping the vinyl mate. Everything released on Beggars Banquet between 1978 and 1983 has now appeared on CD in one form or another. The only track that hasn't is the rare Atco US promo remix of "White Boys & Heroes". If anyone wants a copy of that, (restored and remastered of course) then they can contact me.

Numan always said his version was a homage to Frank whose easy stagecraft he admired and couldn't emulate.
Great synth solo in it , Currie I presume

i thought "on broadway" was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil with Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller? bob Well a quick look at wiki shows that there was an early version by Mann/Weil which was recorded a couple of times, then Lieber/Stoller got involved when the Drifter's needed a song and changed it quite a bit - that's the version we now all know (i would like to hear the original version now). Yes the amazing Currie solo - synths can be expressive. And yes, if you have The Pleasure Principle remaster (why have you not already got this?) you would already have 'On Broadway'.

That is neat! ;D I wish I had a vinyl of Gary Numan's Pleasure Principle. I do not have any Gary Numan vinyls, but I do have some Rick Wakeman. My favorite album of his is Six Wives of Henry VIII. There is nothing like cranking up the stereo at the Minimoog Solo on Catherine of Argon ! I have yet to see that album on CD.
