have a gander at Paia.com. As I'm laid up, bored and relatively immobile for a few weeks I thought of making up either their fatman or 9700 modular synth.
Anyone have any experience of these. I know some of you guys have higher training in electronics, what do you think of their schematics. Are they real synth circuits or just toys.
It seems the gold standard are the Blacet kits ( MOTM have now stopped producing kits) but to have a full synth by Blacet would cost thousands. If I had that I'd buy a Poly, a Jupiter8 etc etc

PAIA have a good rep, I think. But have you looked here? They are supposed to be excellent and have a wicked installment scheme where they send you one module per month for $120 p/m. I nearly got into this - they always answer emails really quickly and are really flexible with the scheme, for example allowing you to source your own cabinet (tricky posting one from the US to UK!) and having a module instead - that type of thing.

Fabulous as they are, .coms aren't kits... MOTM haven't stopped producing kits, not according to their website. Their new frac-rack range is assembled-only, but the 'normal' moogalike modules are still listed as kits. The PAIA has a generally positive rep. They're good for cutting your teeth on building a synth, but their functionality is apparently a bit strange/lacking. I can't recall specific examples though. Maybe search the Analogue Heaven archives?

cheers mate, but it loook like these are pre made modules only . I fancied getting me soldering iron out and using up the last of my lead based solder.

Hi mini M
the following is copied from the Blacet forum mailing list
The BIG NEWS is that MOTM (not Blacet) is quiting the *kit* business, leaving Blacet as virtually the only high quality kit supplier. See the News Page for more info.
The new Scanner and Sequential Switch are now shipping.
Also, the VCO and MW are back in stock, but due to a large amount of back orders, allow 2-3 weeks for shipping.

www.synthtech.com'Welcome to Synthesis Technology Home of the MOTM Analog Modular Synthesizer! Here you will find a wide selection of synthesizer modules that you can build yourself or order assembled and tested.' Just looked at the Blacet site and you're right it says they are quitting. I'm amazed this hasn't come up on AH

Yup the PAIA sounds nice. As to MOTM, this is from the man himself: MOTM is in fact discontinuing ONLY the kit portion of the business, as of Dec 31.
What is NOT being discontinued.
a) Frac rack. In fact, look for 4 new modules by fall. Our Frac rack modules are *assembled only* and sold via Analogue Haven's website and fine store.
b) assembled MOTM modules. In fact, we will be able this fall to announce our new "order on Monday, ship on Friday" policy for all MOTM assembled modules.
c) introduction of new modules. In fact, the *reason* for getting out of the 99% labor-intensive 1% brain-power kitting business is to focus on new R&D. I have signed up 2 more R&D partners, both are experts in a type of digital (ack!) IC called a Xilinx FPGA. This part, coupled with ADC/DACs and a 32-bit 25mips ARM uP will be called the AudioEngine. And there is going to be some really interesting things we can accomplish with the AudioEngine. For those of you familiar with the Blacet MiniWave: we were able to code up, in 4 hours of R&D time, a 64-output MiniWave, each output is 1 of 1024 wavetables at an 18-bit, 48Khz sample rate
To thank everyone for making MOTM what it is (which is still debatable) and to clear out over 300,000 parts in inventory (double ack!) were are having a 15% off sale through Sept 1st. See www.synthtech.com/catalog

I've just finished it and it's the most self-indulgent thing i've ever done. It's THIRTEEN AND A HALF MINUTES LONG!!! So i'm not sure anyone will want to download it,let alone listen to it,but it is 99%analogue so who knows? I will post a link to it soon just in case

I've just finished it and it's the most self-indulgent thing i've ever done. It's THIRTEEN AND A HALF MINUTES LONG!!! It worked for Brian Eno 13½ minutes of analogue thwippery? I think I can handle that as long as its not too distorted ;D
