Right after a 9 month prick tease, announcements at trade shows like NAMM and a series of monthly "taster" videos and podcasts the latest softsynth from spectrasonics is shipping (for about $500 US). But what the hell is it? I've been waiting for the big pay off but I can't see anything radically new and exciting.
It take 50gig of Hard drive and the minimum specs to run it are not all that minimum in short it looks like a potential processor hog.
Has anyone here taken a look and found what I am clearly missing?

I was initially interested in it, but after seeing the live demo video at some trade show with people praising it like a new cult had formed, it seemed to me like the sounds were too signature, the overly mentioned burning piano for example. It' seems to be selling itself on it's ability to represent physical modelling in more ways than normal. Ultimately I prefer purer synth sounds and less Absynth-like sounds if that makes sense (I have Absynth 4 but have never used it in a tune yet) whereas I've used various freebie synths over and over.
I'd rather have a Prophet 08.

Couldn't agree more. These soundscape type voices are fine when you first play them but they have precious little use musically. How many alien soundscapes does one person need? The Foxx gig I went to reintroduced me to the the elegant and sufficient beauty of simple analog or (VA) sounds played loud. I think thats why I love my new polyevolver so much. Who do you know who actually uses absynthe in their songs? AND even if the original sound for your physical modelling was a burning piano or a tungsten bulb filament, once its processed to buggery it seems to have little unique left to it nor be a sound that couldn't be achieved by another form of synthesis. It is pretentious bollocks. I really don't care if the original waveform is the recorded screams of small puppies having the testicles crushed in mole grips, if it sounds like an FM voice once you've fiinished tinkering then use FM. I agree buy a prophet ( after the poly)
