Whiteface Mk I ARP Odyssey on top of a Polymoog 280a (I know from a previous pic from a different angle) with a Minimoog in the background ;D
Now to better this, who can tell me what patch Numan has set up on the Oddy?

Now to better this, who can tell me what patch Numan has set up on the Oddy? It's a bog-standard bass patch - two saws, no mod at all, zero attack and decay, full sus. Tiny bit of rez in the filter. Filter s/h slider is up but there's nothing in the s/h source section so that won't do anything. See here for reference

Yeah but going out on a limb... just suppose for a minute that that "bog-standard bass patch" is THE bass patch prior to processing?
Can one of you Oddy owners replicate the settings in the photo and let us have a sound clip?

"The Polymoog had one good preset in it called 'Vox Humana', which is the high string sound heard on 'Cars', and with the Minimoog I was just trying to make it sound as powerful as two chugging guitars, since I wrote most of the early stuff on the guitar anyway"I think I got really close with MiniMoog (VST) and guitar flanger on my later stuff. I would love to hear a real Mini Moog through a guitar flanger for comparison

Allright Mark, keep yer hair on! YES, we have all more or less come to the conclusion it was a Mini. There's been enough threadage on this subject here in the past but... There was always that small percentage of doubt and seeing as though we have a picture of the Odyssey playing a "bass patch" during the PP recording session, I would like to hear someone re-create it.

THIS is what the settings produced. It's still a bit away but with some flanging etc.?

Well it's safe to say it's nothing like it Martin. Thanks though mate. How many other forums do you know of where someone can post a picture of Numan playing a synth and a few hours later we can HEAR what it sounded like... all from a photo? ;D

Is that with both oscs on saw wave? Sound like one at least is on square - sounds a bit hollow? I'm not sure if they were both on saw so THEY ARE NOWMight not be "the"sound but it's a good one all the same(apart from the bloody noise from the flanger )

OK Martin, two things... you're playing it an octave too low and your oscilators aren't in tune with each other Can we go again? 1... 2... 3... 4....

The oscilators don't look in tune in the pic? HERE it is again played on the lowest octave then an octave above. I'm guessing they were gonna use the odyssey patch then someone came up with a better one on the minimoog

I think your guess isn't far off Martin BTW, this time you played it in the right octave to start and then went up an octave too high... You crazy

Hee hee I read this thread about 6 o' clock and just logged back in to find you'd all had the same conversation as I'd had with myself meantime. Square waves, octave interval, flanger noise, not-right-but-sounds-canny-anyway, etc... So here's a quick clip of my take on the patch, inc flanger. I'm a bit pissed so the timing is as ropey as ever, in fact I couldn't even manage a take of Metal at all #boozer01# Not Numan but nice
