Well, set off for work this morning on The Hog (= Vespa) and within 5 mins was flat on my back waiting for the paramedics. Some eejit decided to do a U-turn right in front of me and T-boned me. Classic motorbike 'accident'.
Have just returned after 10 hours from A&E with a busted up shoulder and cra***d ribs. Deep joy. The Hog is dead and in all fairness I've been very lucky.
Having just got over tonsilitus I'm back in bed reading all my geeky owners manuals again. Got the new GN album yesterday so will be able to give that a proper listen on phones - that should tip me right over the edge..

I hope you have a speedy recovery Andy. You might not feel it but you've been very lucky. Believe me mate, I've been there and a broken back takes some adjustment I'm not hugely enamoured by the "compensation culture" blight that is spreading across the uk but in this case mate, make sure you get every penny from the arse that did this to you

Bummer Andy
As a biker myself I have had this done to me by drivers all the time but managed to avoid them. Car drivers awareness of Bikes in this country is very lacking generally.
Riding in the rest of europe really opens your eyes to how bad we are.
I always say bikers make better car drivers because you look for the biker and learn to think much further ahead on a bike to survive.
I totally agree with Shaun on the claiming for injuries. An incident in adverse conditions or something I can forgive but that is just ignorance on the part of the car driver and they should get hammered.
Get well soon and if you want any Cd's or a synth or something to tinker with whilst off (one I own) then shout and i'll drop something round.

A small consolation but I know the ENT surgeons in Brighton. At least we could get your tonsils sorted. Say AHHH! #superlaff#

Sorry to hear about that, Andy. I used to ride a Vespa, and was lucky I was never involved in a crash. I've had many friends get hit by cars on their bikes. One even died when he was hit head on by an SUV rounding a curve many years ago.
Just curious, are there helmet laws in the UK? There are certain states here that require helmets (North Carolina is one) and some don't.

In the UK wearing a helmet has been compulsory since pretty much forever* Mike. Hope you can enjoy the lay-up a bit Andy and that it doesn't hurt too much. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and a handsome compo #beerchug# Edit: 'Forever' being since 1973 apparently

Just curious, are there helmet laws in the UK? There are certain states here that require helmets (North Carolina is one) and some don't. The helmet didn't help me this time. Having now spoken to the traffic cops who turned up, it seems the bike slid out from under me when I braked and went 'down the road', as they say. I hit the offside rear door with my shoulder first, which explains a lot. They had to cut my parka and fleece off me - more compo!
