Was listening to The Stranglers "Rattus Norvegicus" over the weekend. What keyboard is used for all those magical arpeggios? Like in (Get A) Grip (On Yourself). I think I read they used an RMI before. Is that it? Sounds electronic/electromechanical at the same time. That's how RMI pianos are, right? Electromechanical spring like key contacts with electronic sound generation (oscillators)? Thanks

It's a fantastic sound isn't it? It was indeed Jords and with more than just a nod at Ray Manzarek too which ain't a bad thing. The article doesn't mention an Oberheim though and although it was half my lifetime ago, I'm positive I saw Dave Greenfield playing an Obie on TOTP once. I can't remember exactly but my mental picture is that it was black & white (not the telly #what# ) with a 4 or 5 octave board so my guess would be an OB-X or an 8 voice? #scratchhead# I would guess that would have driven the occasional "machine" arpeggios as opposed to Greenfield's superbly executed manual keyboard runs. Top player #bow#
