It's not the Polymoog that's lost or broken it's his common sense. Even if it was still boxed and never played it would struggle to get that much. Maybe it died laughing when it found how much it was being sold for. He looks like he's posing for a catalogue shoot.

My bet is that it is(was) legit, they probably somehow ended up with it and didn't realize that it's not worth that much. They probably found it in a closet and thought "Wow, a Moog! It must be worth $2000" I wonder if you contacted them if they would take a resonable offer. I'm not in the UK so it doesn't matter to me
