Actually, the story is completely true, it's in the Times today. Basically, a law will be passed in Japan outlawing the resale of all electrical good made before 2001, unless the items undergo a safety test (starting at £30 for a kettle). Retailers in defiance will face up to a year in pris or a fine of up to £1/2m It is being called "the worst law ever" in Japan. Whatever next, will they ban smoking in bars?
