Got to start somewhere kid. Most of us use VSTi's for sequencing anyway. We only power up our behemoths for hand played leads and whoosy noises anyway which is fine fine either case. It's getting to the stage now where half the time you can't tell what's genuine and what's virtual anyway for basic "bread & butter" stuff. It's only when you want sounds with distinct character (vox humana, odyssey leads, that sort of stuff) that you have to bring in the big boys toys. The difference between a CR-78 pattern for instance and one that's sequenced from single shot samples is light years but stuff like the Arturia/GMedia range is absolutely superb. Not the same exactly but good enough in their own right to stand alongside the real thing and often with many more features (ie. the Arturia Minimoog having Polyphony and an arpegiator). I'll never go 100% virtual because there's never gonna be a VR Polymoog but as time moves on, my use of VSTi's is increasing exponentially. You do need to get a good "knobby" usb interface though as a mouse won't cut it.
