1 week after I ordered an asus laptop with an i7 and a 5800 video card my work bought me an Apple Macbook pro with an i7 and 8gig RAM.
Very interesting, 2 new operating systems to learn windows 7 Pro 64 bit and Leopard. To be honest I could not afford the $6000 NZ the apple cost if work hadn't paid, the ASUS with if anything an even higher spec was $3000 NZ.
Windows 7 for me offers little over XP and if anything is much harder to tweak. All the old windows issues still exist. The Apple found my network even though it is set to not Broadcast its ssid and only asked for the password. The PC I had to switch the router to broadcast and know which security system was enabled. In short my wife could have got the Apple up and running the PC required my know how.
The PC demanded I create back up disks, a 3 hour process and took an hour to collect updates. The PC demands the use of a mouse to be ergonomic, the apple multi touch pad makes a mouse largely redundant for most work. The ASUS runs for 1.5 hours the apple for 6 when on batteries.
Power point versus Keynote really no competition. Keynote screams ahead in ease of use and style.
The PC has yet to recognise my wireless printer
So far Apple's the winner by a country mile

Of course, I've had a strong opinion of one platform over the other for years, since 1991 in fact. However, in the interest of peace and harmony I shall keep that opinion to myself!

Did I mention NZ windows 7 does not arrive with a mail application? I understand in europe they had to leave out explorer 8 due to monopoly issues but a Mail program???
I always thought apple was for the effete, fashion conscious, metrosexual who was too scared to open the hood and learn how things work and placed style before substance. Maybe it still is, but for now I'm using moisturiser.

I'm currently on my third (a little old and worn out, but...)! I'd love to hear your impressions on speed, especially with music-based apps. My old Dual G5 is still running fine, but the software world is starting to leave it behind since it uses PowerPC processors.
