Early Model ARP OdysseyA lot of wonga for a monosynth?
Digressing a little, and not really referring to the Oddy above, when I look at these things (not just ARP) and see how they were constructed, it makes me wonder how they ever got away with it. I've had some SHOCKING pieces of crap in my time. Early KORG stuff is now disintegrating, as you'd expect from a couple of bits of MDF and some six inch nails. The EKOSYNTH was hilarious: It looked like I'd knocked it up in my garage.. same goes for Hohner and Siel.. Christ, I really could do better in my garage with a handsaw, cheap drill, and a Black and Decker workmate. And I'm REALLY crap at DIY. Still, I suppose it's the thing as a whole, including the sound, rather than the actual physical bits..

The description is way too scant for a serious seller. No filter model number is quoted, (there were four filter types and the model II here could be one of three). No description of the condition of the sliders or anything else for that matter and no previous service history. On top of that the seller has gone right in at the top whack price. I saw a lovely MkII go last week for about £800. I'd give this a wide berth. BTW. Paul, the MkII isn't as badly constructed as it looks. It's quite solid with its wraparound ABS base. More than can be said for my pro-soloist which has a base made from hardboard! And yes! I know exactly what you mean though...

Those MkIIIs with the overhanging keyboard was a big mistake (looked cool though). Have to say Roland seem to always have had solid construction in the past (not so much now). Apart from the guy's spelling (amaizing analog, inovative etc.) the warranty is great: sold as is, no warranty. Nice.

I remember the Juno I had a few years back. That was solid. Unfortunately, it was huge, and I'd just acquired a microKorg.. bye bye Roland.. Overhanging keys are a big booboo. ARP Axxe springs to mind. They usually have a broken key or two. Just asking for it, really..

Crap description of what you're getting but it obviously didn't put someone off! Judging by the retro-fit cv/gate jacks it look like it is a blackface 2800 (like Martin's). Who said there's a recession? Analogue prices are going nuts. Last year a Pro-one would cost around £500-550. Now they're trading from £800 to over a grand. BTW my MKIII's keyboard is in perfect nick thank you very much (thanks to never leaving the house )

I've just listed my CS-10,CS-15 and SH-09.All built like tanks! I've still got my original CS-5. Not the best monosynth ever, but certainly solid. Had it since 1985-ish.

I bought it brand new for $75 (£38 at today's exchange rate), now they are selling in the neighborhood of $400 (£200+). I would probably keep it anyway. For those not familiar with the MG-1, they were built by Moog for Radio Shack, and they are a very close cousin to the Moog Rogue.
