Another PM Keyboard has just appeared on eBay. It was supposedly "found" in the basement of a music store in Kentucky. Allegedly, it is "mint", having never been played or sold. Looking closely at the photo's, it does indeed appear to be in excellent condition. Obviously, the starting bid price is quite high. PM Keyboard

I'm betting this will go straight to a Japanese collector as did the last mint polymoog (203a). It's a pity they didn't see the sense of showing the poly with it's accompanying packaging (box) etc. as that would have lent a great deal of authenticity to their story, but then again... it's their auction. Looking at the photos, it passes all my "sight tests" for being mint. The pitch wheel screws are still a healthy black, the ribbon surface is completely unmarked, the edge trim isn't scuffed and the lower corners have no tell-tale chips in them. However, if it has been unsold since 1979, the first thing it will require are the post-sale factory modifications outlined in the service manual and there's no guarantee that because it hasn't been used that the circuit components (caps etc) still haven't degraded. I feel that this one might be worth the silly money it may go for though. Despite there being a need for an immediate service and upgrade, I suspect that it would require less replacement components than a flogged old horse

mmm..look at the control panel (some paint has got on the buttons on the sides of them while touching up the silver? also smudges on the black from the paint, and also the case is not 100%, it really looks like a referb and I've changed both the ribbon and screws on my pms which also look new.

"Is it just me I can see no mention of functionality." - Vortex "mint condition and everything works great" - curriersmusicworld I think that says it all....doesn't it? "it really looks like a refurb"- simeoneuk I have to agree. I was actually suspicious from the start. They "claim" that it was found wrapped in the original "factory plastic bag". After taking a second look I doubt that very much. The first hint I saw yesterday was the (dirt) "halos" around the screws on the back of the keyboard. Looking closely at the Master Voice Selector panel, I don't see any stray paint, but I do see all of the dirt caked in the nooks and crannies. This would never happen if it had been sealed in its plastic bag since the late 1970's. I've seen this a hundred times on eBay by people trying to pass off their abused and neglected equipment as "mint". While this keyboard is in very good condition, and they've done a decent job of shining it up, I believe there is some deception here.

Isn't it rather big to be overlooked for so long(especially in it's MOOG box)?

Doh Mitigation- Kava (Piper methysticum) (Piper Latin for "pepper", methysticum Greek for "intoxicating") is an ancient crop of the western Pacific. Other names for kava include ʻawa (Hawaiʻi), 'ava (Samoa), yaqona (Fiji), and sakau (Pohnpei). The word kava is used to refer both to the plant and the beverage produced from its roots. Kava is a tranquilizer primarily consumed to relax without disrupting mental clarity (edit DEBATABLE!). Its active ingredients are called kavalactones. In some parts of the Western World, kava extract is marketed as herbal medicine against stress, insomnia, and anxiety. Bula!!! (PS not being boastful, going to Fiji from NZ is like the English going to Benidorm and about the same price).

Well...there were no takers at $1500 USD, so now they've relisted it and lowered the asking price. It can now be yours for the new low, low price of $1400 USD (1000 Euros)! At this rate, perhaps in ten or twelve weeks I'll be able to take it off of their hands.
