Hi to everyone,
It's great to find such a bunch of like minded deviants all in one place!
I've got quite a few synths and keyboards that I've amassed over the last 10 years or so, many of which I've been able to nurse back to full health myself as needed, some have had to have expensive trips to the techs. I'm no tech myself but I can solder and use a DMM and always like to have a go myself before spending my money (I am half Scottish!).
The Polymoog has always eluded me until now, just got a 280A #1090. It's in good shape cosmetically but currently totally dead, not even a puff of smoke.... yet. I think I could be in for the long-haul with this one but hopefully the wealth of info and knowledge on here may help me get things going again.
I'll try and document/photo my progress as and when so this may hopefully help others in the future.
If you see a mushroom cloud over Yorkshire then I got it wrong.
Ian

Welcome Ian! My Poly is clearly in better fettle than yours as it does smoke, and also buzzes quite loudly. I wouldn't get toooooo hopeful for detailed techy help here as we're none of us techs (although Mike is a dab hand with the soldering iron it seems). Although the odd (and occasionaly distinguished) one drops by infrequently we have no resident expert so to speak The service manual is here though so grab that and see how you get on!

Hi All,
Well I've downloaded the manual now which is damn good and better quality than most crap I've paid good money for in the past. Don't you just love t'interweb.
Anyway, I'm gonna have a good read but it's not gonna be of much use for a while as I've already established that the transformer's dead. Them volts is going in OK but there's bugger all coming out. A bit of a show stopper really. I think I'll re-cap the power supply board anyway whilst I wait to source a transformer.
Anybody got a spare power transformer they're willing to part with for a reasonable price?
If I can get a new tranny I might just be able to get mine smoking just like Minimoog's Poly! Could save me a fortune in dry-ice if I ever use it on stage.
Please PM me if you can help or even just know of somewhere I can get hold of one.
Cheers
Ian

My PSU has gone as well, and to my shame I haven't got round to getting it fixed yet. In theory you could remove it and send it away for repair without shifting the whole synth, but there's a chance the psu will have taken something on the other boards out with it when it failed so that'll need sorting in due course. I'd say a good option would be to give Tony Allgood a ring and see what he thinks. I'm sure he'll rebuild your psu for you and it'll be better than new too. He might cringe audibly when the Polymoog word is mentioned though... Edit: sorry I read power supply for transformer so the above doesn't really address your problem. I'd still give Tony a ring though as he'll know where to get a tranny.

I coincidentally have been at tonys today and he said that contrary to popular belief,he actually doesn't mind working on polymoogs. Now memorymoogs...that's a different matter. And hiya ian, welcome to dubsounds ;D
