Hi all, i'm a 40 year old analogue synth collector/keyboard player from North Lincolnshire, UK: Gear: ARP Pro-soloist ARP Axxe (being refurbed) Moog Opus 3 Yamaha YS100 Emu Vintage Keys Influences: Electro: Gary Numan, Human League, Soft Cell, OMD, Depeche Mode, Air, Goldfrapp 60's: Who, Doors, Grateful Dead Prog: Yes, Genesis, ELP, Hawkwind Darkwave: Suspiria, Faithful Dawn Weirdo stuff: John Cale, Nico, The Fall, Krautrock, Circulus, Soundtrack stuff like John Carpenter, Goblin As you can see, I have pretty eclectic tastes, not much of an expert on house, techno, ambient, etc, but quite open minded to the stuff. I joined this forum cause my next purchase is likely to be a Polymoog Keyboard 308a, so all help, advice, tips etc very much appreciated. Hope to chat to you across the Forums, Neo

Hi Neil, welcome to the forum mate, (we use our real names mostly). Nice list of kit you've got there ;D Musically, this place should be up your street. We've all got broad tastes and this certainly isn't a dance music orientated forum (although there's nothing wrong with techno of course, just as long as it isn't the be all and end all). Look forward to chatting with ya! Shaun

North is Brigg/Scunthorpe neck of the woods Vortex. Darkwave is probably best described a electro-goth stuff, as distinct from guitar based stuff like the Sisters, Nephilim etc, or emo/black metal. The couple of bands i mentioned are real favs of mine - they are both on a Nottingham label called Nightbreed. Beware cause theirs a rather mediocre black metal band called Suspiria, the band i'm refering to were about in the mid 90's and recorded a couple of albums and some 12''s. Check out "Great & Secret Show", or especially "Drama", their last album which was sublime. Synth based, you can dance to this stuff as well, they were pretty Depeche Mode influenced, with some great bitchy lyrics, "now she is apparently, a dance floor tragedy...". Faithful Dawn and the label bosses own band, Midnight Configuration were pretty good as well. Here's a link - www.churchofnightbreed.comGoblin are brill, MrArk, I love the scene in Suspiria (thats 3 Suspiria's, the film, not the darkwave or BM band lol) where Jessica Harper's character is walking out of the airport in a storm, with this huge synth soundtrack blasting - i think Goblin used ARPs, an Oddysey or Quadra? (although I know John Carpenter used a Quadra on the soundtracks to "Assault on Precinct 13", "Halloween" etc which have a very similar vibe). I must admit i haven't heard much of their none soundtrack stuff. In terms of my sounds, I have no recording experience at all, other than playing with virtual synths on Garageband. I need an audio interface, possibly one of the Line 6 guitar interfaces, because i tend to run my synths through an old 4 channel mixer, mixed straight into one channel of an amp, which should work through an audio interface? if anyone can see an obvious fault in this plan, let me know, particularly if my synths are going to blow my Mac up doing this lol. Cheers all, Neil

Vortex - Re Suspiria - Dario Argento films are an acquired taste, it's certainly strange, and a bit dated looking, but it's beautifully filmed, and that soundtrack! Quite surreal as well, mainly long drawn out sequences around a creepy old school. Here's a review: www.endevil.com/suspiria.htmlArgento also co-directed and scored the soundtrack with Goblin on George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, which is another 70's retro classic soundtrack! Suspiria's sequel, Inferno, (the soundtrack of which has keys by Keith Emerson!) is plain bonkers!
