Slinky. This is the Synth version (203a) which is NOT the same as the 280a version. The sound you said you were after in the earlier dubsounds thread was the Vox Humana preset on the 280a model run through an MXR Phase 100. Whilst the 203a model on ebay is more versatile it CANNOT replicate the preset sound that was installed on the later 280a models (VOX Humana). If you havent worked this out already the best way to tell the two models apart is that the 203a has knobs and buttons all the way along the synth, but the 280a only has a few sliders and knobs on the left hand side. PS. It was nice of you to check the situation on here first before bidding though #beerchug# . If you want to find, buy and maintain a polymoog then this community is the best place to be, so I'm sure you'll be stroking that black vinyl soon enough If you want a starting point then get yourself a vintage MXR Phase 100 (not the dunlop re-issue with the red LED on the front) because as I mentioned in another thread I think you could fart through one of those things and it would sound lovely ! I'm sure if you put one of your Memorymoog strings through the MXR you would get somewhere close ish to the sound you love. It may not be the same but the uniqueness of the MXR has an uncanny habit of turning any string type sound into total LUSHNESS ! Expect to pay up to £100 for a good original vintage Phase 100. the Phase 90 is a bit cheaper and sounds very good too, but has less variations on it. ;D

Sorry to answer for you Dan but YES! All Numan's wailing strings of that period are the Vox Humana preset (#1) on the 280a version of the Polymoog (with and sometimes without an MXR Phaser). Everything you need to know is here...

Yes. The sustaining string sounds on Cars are Vox Humana from the 280a version of the polymoog. The phase 100 is used on that track also. The begining warble is Vox Humana and an MXR on maximum speed. The the MXR is used again at the end of Cars at a more slower speed, so at the end you have the pure Vox Humana joined by a phased version. Sounds great doesnt it ! Beleive me the MXR phase will do wonders to any sound though. Check back through some of the earlier threads on here or use the search facility for "MXR" (last 90 days maximum of 50 posts) and you will hear many samples of it working its magic. here is my Polymoog 280a fed through an MXR phase 100 doing the Cars intro and then slowing the phase down: www.dannymoog.co.uk/carsintro.mp3Here is another good recent thread: dubsounds.proboards34.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=patch&thread=1148051565&page=1

Heh heh - another fly stumbles into the web #devil01# Since no-one round here can resist a few gratuitous Polymoog samples, here's mine. Badly played, but you get the idea Vox Humana280a+MXR Phase 100
