Well i thought some of you might like this, it's a remix so it's not my music, but this girl called breathehope - i've never met her - internet jobby. i basically had the vocal line and chords and i went a bit mad with the Numan references. Used Andy Boucher's LM-1 samples, real CR-78, CreamWare's Profit 5 (you may recognise a certain clanging bell sound), E Bow and then it wigs out guitar-wise at the end after a bit of an admittedly slow start. Lost three week's work (you gotta love computers), so this was as far as i got redoing it. It's here at Audioshots. Comments welcome Mr Arkadin

Antony - I love this. Gotta say that her voice drives me nuts. There's only room for one little mad sugarcube, isn't there? :-) Really enjoyed listening to the music - it's not the descending, clanging bell that I thought it was going to be - more Ghosts than Chameleons - and great to hear the LM1 stomping around. Good work fella!

Not trying to be different but I liked the last minute or so more than the rest. I'll try and explain. The Numan references didn't work for me. They sounded a bit gratutious and even superfluous. The detuned "numan" linn clap didn't sit well for me and the fact that you even used the same fill pattern as Numan made it seem a less imaginitive use of the sound. Had you played your own pattern with it and processed it through some nice earcandy effects like a deep flange or something, it might have been better and certainly more original. As a wink to Numan it's ok but did it do anything for your tune? I don't think so. The same can be said for the Prophet 5 "chameleons bells" I'm afraid. The vocals did my head in. Why a girl should spend so much time immitating someone and then get pissed with people when they make comparisons escapes me! When she finally buggered of and you kicked in with your "wig out" at that point, i really got into it and started to enjoy it. What that says to me mate is that i would like to hear some more of your stuff minus the Bjorkalike and blatant Numan references. Have you got anything like that?

I think the best test of this would be to play it to someone who likes a bit of electro but isn't at all familiar with GN stuff. Some of GN's sounds are SO recognisable (to us anyway) that they always sound shoe-horned into others' original tracks. Or am I talking bollocks..... ?

On a personal preference i would much rather hear an original track with a few nods to influences than listen to a track that has tried to recreate an old song note for note, sound for sound.
The first time i listened to this track the numan influences were very subtle but now shaun enhanced them they do stand out more.
Still love it though ;D

Cheers chaps. Well in some respects dubs is spot on - the last minutes are my favourite - i tuned guitars to open strings to get a drone thing going and yes the drum patterns were a bit This Is My House and actually i think the percussion needs the most work (plus the detuned LM-1 clap sound is way too loud and needs some processing like dubs suggests). Also this was pre JP-4, so who knows what i may have done. Glad no-one knocked my CR-78 or i may have had to get violent with a pointy stick. Maybe i'll tame down the descending bells, but i like a few in there, plus i could always add some CP-30 when Andy gets me the samples (cheers labouch). BTW that isn't your burnt out Polymoog chip in your avatar is it?

I thought this was excellent - really enjoyed it. Yeah the clap is intrusive and needs throttling back, and the P5 bells could use a little air round them for my taste, but otherwise cool. Nice to hear the P5 'Ghosts' patch in there too. And the vox weren't as bad as I'd been led to expect...
Good work - I'll be going back to this one.
;D

Now that's what I'm talking about For a guy who spent "very little time on it" you've totally transformed it to something totally tasty ;D "Bjork does Assassin with Bill Nelson at the controls" I'd like to sign this to the "dubsounds label" if I can mate. Do you need permission from the singer? If its all ok can you send me info such as the recording date / copyright info etc. Cheers

Crikey - i'll send you some details as soon as i can - i'm currently learning to surf in Newquay and when i get back i'm playing a wedding. Don't worry it's a punk/new wave set with 1979 as the base year (no Numan though - bit too scary for a wedding, plus we have no synths). Also i noticed a digital click towards the end, so i'll re-record this for anything proper, plus we'll have to get breathope's permission i think

Shaun. If the "Into The Asylum" track is all remastered and ready to go is there any chance you could email a copy to me ? I know your busy with eveything and it is due to go on-line soon, but I've been dying to hear what it sounds like after your mastering skills have done the business. Thanks... Daniel

It's going to be on the Dubsounds music page for download by registered members only mate. I've made a few small edits for pacing and length but nothing any record company wouldn't do for a single release anyway and I'm positive you will like it. Daniel, if Arkadin get's his skates on, it will be up on Saturday!
