Check out the "Other Samples" area and you'll spot the SR-88 sample set is available. Unlike the Hollow Sun sample pack (no disrespect to Steve Howell intended as I DO admire what he does and his site is impressive) BUT... as I keep banging on about... you can't get a realistic analogue drum machine out of one kick, one snare, one hihat type samples so here you get 27 multisamples over the six sounds the machine can make. So go check out my first ever beat box and hopefull it will make you smile

Korg MonoPoly. Nice choice Paul. That's on my wishlist for my collection one day. Do you know if they can be MIDI retrofitted at all mate? I believe they're "just" pre--midi. SR-88, what a bag of shit they were back then but oddly very cool again 24 years on. I'd never have attempted "Films" though. Kind of a hiding to nothing without toms

LOL, we just omitted the toms but we still thought it was great as we could CV gate trigger the SH101 as a bass synth.
I used to have a MonoPoly, it was the first duophonic I could afford. Had SH101, Jen SX1000 and Vox Organ too. Then I got a Polymoog which was a big mistake. Later I got the M1 and never looked back. Course, it's all softsynths now and guitars are quite good.
Not sure about MIDI fitting the Monopoly, sorry.

I used to play a Monopoly in a band I was in. Very nice synth indeed.
Kenton used to do a Midi kit but they have dropped most of them now.
The Synhouse Midijack can be fitted to them and is a dead simple one to fit.

I had a SR 88 - Mr Millington borrowed it some years later and it came back totally busted. He has denied it ever since despite the wires all being disconnected inside. It went off to the great gig in the sky shortly after. It was totally pants though - I only bought it as it was all I could afford. Young Things used it live to trigger the sequencer on Mr Millington's JX 3P though when we played I Feel Love. Worked quite well...except the drummer was only hearing it through monitors and it all went a bit AWOL at times...

the SR-88 pack made it into one of my new tunes.
i used the crash cymbal and with a bit of enveloping and some waveshaping i now have it as a nasty little snare.

Whee, toast that cheese muffin Hey Arick, have you seen the Roland Samples page lately or the Ace Tone in the "Other's" section? More thump hiss than you can shake a digital cattle prod at

I've had several SR-88s, both the early (blue) ones, and the later (black ones).
I really rate them!
I started with a BOSS DR-55, so the SR-88 is a step-up from that.
I've used SR-88 samples in several tracks. (All my stuff is done on a computer, using samples for percussion, and soft-synths).
I noticed today that SonicState doesn't have any info on SR-88s. So I've submitted a quickie..
I've also had ST-305 "STIX" machines. (Still got one - not working.. grr.) These are like expanded SR-88s, with individual level controls and outputs for the sounds. Sound quality suffered, though..

So you still have a working 88 then? I had to borrow one a few years back to make up my (originally Ensoniq) sample pack. I do miss having the old "hiss box" though It's mad really but drum machines became totally redundant the minute I got my first sampler but when it comes to analogues, I still prefer to use the actual machine and record the patterns as long loops. For me, sampling just kills the original vibe of analogue. With the sample packs on the site, I've been obsessive with multiple takes of each sound which should pass as pretty much authentic, (certainly better than trying to re-create a CR-78 using only one sterile snare sample anyway) - but there's nothing of the satisfaction of having the thing in front of you is there? Now where's me pipe & slippers?

No, I don't currently have a working SR-88.. (That may change suddenly, as I have a habit of finding fixer-uppers).
I do have a Kays Memory Rhythm machine, which is basically the same thing, rebadged, and sold my Kays catalogue...
I have to agree though, there's nothing like getting out the old CS-5, a DR-55, and just playing the damned things. (My neighbour may disagree, but since he has a drum kit, bass and keyboards in his dining room, he can shut up..)
When I finally get the house sorted (and I will... honest), I may be able to fit my mixer, a mic, and the tascam in there as well. That would be a laugh. Now where did I put the VL-1s?? OOOO! nearly forgot. Must get the M500 out...
