I see a 50/50 split concerning their current modus operandi. Some hate the love shown to their cloning efforts, some, like me, don't give two shits about it as long as it works, doesn't cost a bomb, and keeps on coming.
We know of the mini, the Roland vocoder, the planned obx-a. Now there's a teased jp8, and a pro 1 circuit board picture doing the rounds to whet the appetite even more. When they do a pro 5, cs80 and memorymoog, I think all hell will break loose on discussion forums. For me, as a consumer with finite resources, it's a great opportunity to get close as approximations of lusted after gear. And the best thing, it'll probably work without the need for a tech guy on 24 hour call. Long may Uli continue his adventure.
Great times for retro synth heads.

If they're true soundalikes I'm all for them. VST's were/are great for music production but they're shit on stage. Been to a Kraftwerk gig in the last 15 years??? Nah give me a towering rack of synths anyday. Knobs you've got to love em, even sliders if you're feeling a bit experimental. ( I was never confused)

If some of the latest soft synth emulations are 90% of the way there, and the good ones do sound quite convincing, then fingers crossed the clones will get closer still to the originals. Having tactile interfaces will be great. Just hope they don't fall apart after 10 minutes use.

I'm all for it. Although I still enjoy getting jiggy with the old soldering iron on the old crusty circuit boards to a point, I 'd rather spend my time playing the bloody things. ( I have a DR-55 that might get find itself broken up for spares if it doesn't stop being difficult ) I don't care if my Odyssey is an ARP, a Korg or a Behringer. Yes, I know about the "quality" issue. But if my Behringer breaks, I can get THEM to fix it under warranty..
As a side note, I just bought the 3xCD deluxe edition of Metamatic.. That's mainly Odyssey.. CD3 has some "new" tracks on it, including "Miss Machinery", which is deffo Odyssey.. like a mutant remix of bits of "known" tracks. Nice. If I can play THAT on a Behringer, you are on..

Yeah the Odyssey, that was a surprise at Superbooth. Good stuff. Just hope it plays and sounds as good as the intention and expectations.
Might be taboo in some parts, bit I'm like you. I don't care who makes it, just as long as it's faithful and respectful to the original and they make enough of them to keep prices low. A lotto win and I'd have all the classics in a new platinum card heartbeat, but I'd probably still have the clones as daily runabouts.

Looks like the CS80 is now on the cards. Sure it'll take a couple of years, but then with the money I'm planning to give Uli, I'll need the time. Great synths at great prices.
