There's a Facebook campaign to get Ultravox's Vienna to #1 in 2010. (No, Midge isn't running it!) The idea is to do a "Rage", where everyone downloads a copy from a legal mp3 seller between April 4th and April 10th. Sounds good to me. I'm in. Unfortunately, the devious Mr Joe Dolce (shaddappayouface) is running his own campaign to knock it off the top.. Vienna Campaign

Would be cruel if Dolce did it again. As an aside can I just say I really hate the way "#" is starting to creep into British culture - it's an Americanism. Since when does # equate to the word number (or No.)? In my head I would say, Make Vienna hash one.

There's also a campaign to get Joy Division 'Love Will Tear Us Apart" to no. 1 on the 18th May 2010, the 30th Anniversary of Ian Curtis' death, and encourages all downloaders to donate to epilepsy research at the same time (common wisdom is that it was a cocktail of epilepsy drugs that resulted in Ian's suicide). I'm not so sure I approve of these mass download campaigns, for example looks like we are gonna get some frightful born again christian band for Easter, though i do make an exception for the JD campaign because of the charity fund raising and awareness raising angle, this one was well thought out.

Could prove an interesting chart as the Save 6 Music campaign are trying to get Half Man Half Biscuit's "Joy Division Oven Gloves" in the charts too.

I can assure you that behind a lot of these Facebook schemes, there's many a desperate and cynical record company exec' who think they have a new marketing tool and a means to make a name for themselves back at the office. Why is it always a band that had a big success in the past? Why not some new band who need a break and deserve to be heard? Every time I get spammed by one of these noble causes, it just makes me feel like "look... just piss off!" I'm amazed that people don't see that they're being manipulated and even if they do, they don't seem to care. Has the revolution of punk finally extinguished itself? Never mind the bollocks! Another hype yes, but an anti-hype in a bloated industry that saturated people with homogenised crap. Where are we now then? People power? Taking back control of the hype that is and always was a total corruption... the UK Charts? Viral nonsense guys, really! It's all a swizz. A great rock and roll one at that. Don't for fuck's sake get me on the subject of Florence and the bloody Machine #goofy# Love from a middle aged grumpy old man

Bloody hell, who rattled your cage. However, I agree and don't get ME started on Florence and their bloody Machine. You just know that if Jools Holland was on telly at the mo that they'd be on.

Oh you don't know the half of it then Joe. It's like every time you turn on the bloody telly these days it's "you got the love... you got the love..." like FUCK OFF! She's not even that great a singer, just loud and annoying. Like a bloody fog horn. She covered that club classic "You Got The Love" (Candi Statton & The Source) but she's not black, she's got no soul, no emotion, just lungs like a Graf Zeppelin. Horrible, just horrible

Naturally I had to look up the you tube. What an annoying pub singer.
It will obviously become a gay - crossdresser - transgender icon and develop a loyal fanbase there.
You can keep it in the Northern hemisphere thank you very much

It's funny I was Reading this thread the other day then shortly afterwards she popped up on some programme being interviewed! It's a bit like the ubiquity of that Mika bloke.
