Saw the second night so missed Chris Payne. Hopefully he'll do London. Does this mean Gary and Chris have finally patched things up?
Asylum was a strange moment.
See you at Manchester and O2 folks.
The 'Conversation' tour DVD apparently has Gary reunited with a CR-78 and some synths he used around those years, should be funny to see his reaction. Did Shaun have anything to do with this?

was at southampton last night, a scaled down lightshow as its only a small venue. the Numan team have done a great job, i really enjoyed it, not only did i hear some sounds im familiar with, gary was playing them, he has the virus at the front and makes good use of it, there were a couple of things that i thought " hmm thats not quite right" but hey, thats me being picky, i look forward to 02, southampton was too intimate and the acoustics.. a bit weird, a bigger venue will make all the difference,

I will be listening from afar at the back of the seating area at the O2 as I missed buying a ticket when they first came out Will seem like a flashback to the Warriors and Fury tours seating-wise though in the case of the Fury tour hopefully not music-wise... Has the Touring Principle dvd been available at the gigs? Just leaves the re-release of Micromusic and the re-release with lost tracks of Telekon... which I am still very curious about... (Shaun?)

Yes the Touring Principle DVD is on sale I believe. I was told that Micro Music might be available too but evidently this hasn't happened, (although I hear its finished). As for a Telekon Deluxe edition, that's down to Beggars but it might be problematic as I doubt very much that Numan would promote it with a tour, (having already done his Telekon revival). One of the problems with the discarded Telekon era studio outtakes is that some of them resurfaced a few years later with extra material bolted on (like The Image Is which is clearly Telekon era in origin from the instrumentation but half-way through a second half of Assassin material has been added). It would be nice to hear the proto "Image Is" though. Other stuff like "Exhibition" and "Stories" once again clearly originate in the Telekon style but were remixed and added to other albums/singles. No-doubt, a scouring of the tape cupboard will turn up some bizarre recordings and again, Beggars will claim they have nothing (as they did with Replicas and Principle) but time will tell

Haven't got a ticket yet but am planning on dragging my missus with me to Sunderland (of all places - FFS). Too much else on to travel to the 'livelier' venues.

I've just returned from the Manchester gig, terrific, I'll post more thoughts later. The Touring Principle DVD is on sale at the gigs, I got mine The one DVD has the original concert untouched and the original video tape release with odd special effects on it, and an interview with numan about the tour and its success etc. A second DVD is also on sale (yes I bought that too) which is a more indepth interview with numan about his rise to fame, auditioning the original band members etc. I've only watched about 5 mins of it I'll be at Blunderland too next week M

Well my irrational review is that it was bloody marvellous. All live, no backing tracks (hence the intense concentration from everyone) for the TPP half , i almost cried when Chris Payne came on (must assume that rift has been taken care of finally by Gary).
i'm sure Shaun will dissect the Vox Humana sound, but hey overall this was the best gig i've been to in a long while (by anyone).
i'll be down at Maida Vale for the Radio 6 session on Monday ;D.

Oh, first off, I got handed a flyer for the Louis Gordon/Tenek gig next week while in the queue, good idea Shaun... Well, I was up in the vertigo section in row n which was second row from the top upstairs.Really would liked to have been on the ground floor. Quite a weird view angle, but it had been quite a weird day as my company closed down earlier, but that's another story!
I really enjoyed the Pleasure Principle part, while I get what the new stuff is about it didn't do anything for me.
The stage video and lighting was great even from my viewing point. Not really into the video stuff used for the latter newer stuff, lots of grim things and expectant religious related images. The sparkley static (on the side screens) and PP imagery of the first half was much more uplifting. I did notice the big live feed viewing screen is about a quarter of a second out of sync! As for the music, Numan's vocals seem to be at the best I've heard them (PP tracks) and the versions of the PP tracks sounded really good, the O2 sound seemed pretty good from where I was.Of course there were some odd sounding bits but on par with the Telekon revisited gig a couple of years ago.
I wonder if this is the last tour of classic albums, could he really do the Dance album? (one of my favourites), I think he would if pushed would probably to do the first Tubeway Army album as it's nearer to his heavier guitar sound he now favours...
were they filming for the dvd at the O2 or just for the O2 screens?

im not sure that he would do the Dance album, although one of my favourite albums, its far to laid back, years ago i would put it on when i got home from gigs at about 2...3am, its the best chill out album ever, Subway is a monster track, any way, i heard someone mention at indigo, and i feel they may be on the right track, that Gary may wait till the anniversary of the wembley gigs to do a selection of tracks spanning all the albums, and then retire, what is he ,,,,51 now, i reckon we have another 2 maybe 3 years before he retires from live shows and recording. period, Indig02 was awesmome, but i think that from 1980 to now, i ve seen all i need to see, i wont be seeing him live again, asmuch as i love Gary Numan, i just cant be bothered any more,

Yeah that's kind of it now that PP is done.If he did a final retirement tour covering all the best stuff then I'd go, but the new stuff has no appeal musically or lyrically for me. I'd be surprised if he stopped recording as well as touring though. John Foxx is still touring and keeping busy, he's 60/61 now(?).
Yeah Dance is for the ultimate low light evening chill out. Played it many times working late too, great album to work to in the way that the Blade Runner soundtrack is too.
Hopefully the PP tour gets a cd release too.But would like MicroMusic to appear on DVD first....

John Foxx is still touring and keeping busy, he's 60/61 now(?). Better than that, he's just launched a new thread: John Foxx & The Maths.. A collaboration with Benge.. Their first (digital) single "Destination" now available on Townsend. It's awesome.. an album to follow in the new year..
