Sorry Russ but i have a problem with the Nord as well.
Basically the Nord is a VA and can probably emulate to a degree 9 or 10 synths to varying degrees so you are effectively allowing 10 synths to compete against one.
Im also in favour of all Drum/percussion sounds to come from your nominated synth. The idea is to test just what whacky sound you can get from your synth
If the Nord is allowed in then i want the Royal Phily orchestra as backing for my synth or we put Russ in the "splitter" category.

I totally agree mate, it would not be fair would it?. So I have a few options open here and I`m gonna use, either the Fairlight Samples from Nostagia, the OPX (when I get it next week) The Korg MS-20 or the Korg PolySix. But its looking more like the Fairlight Samples, which I will prob use. ;D

Oh let him do it Jordan.
I think it would be cool to hear a track soley made from fairlight library samples and I think it's well within the spirit of the comp.

No!!!!, really joking aside now, the Fairlight seems a good idea, it came out in the early 80`s, its VINTAGE innit, and ONLY using the samples from Nostalgia, I think its a good idea ;D UPDATE (a hour later after going thru the Fairlight library) This is gonna be harder than I thought, I know the song I`m gonna do, and it is possible, but its a challenge, and I`m up for that!!!!! ;D Now where`s that ruddy Fairlight drum library

I cant see a lot of difference between you doing a Fairlight track and me doing a melotron track to be honest. It adheres to the single sound source idea which is crucial to the competition and although it is early... (practically prehistoric) digital technology, I think it's more in the spirit of this than a Nord which has no personality of its own. Still waiting for Jordan to authorise it but if it were down to me, I'd let is through no problem. No pressure Jords

To be honest I'm struggling to see how playing back a a load of drum and choir samples through a digital recreation of a digital sampler is relevant to an analogue synth compo A Mellotron btw is full of tapes and valves and has Bakelite knobs so breezes in past the bouncers waving a backstage pass Personally I think the Nord is a much more relevant sound source than a Fairlight - at least its architecture mimics synths of yore, its sound was (allegedly) based on the Prophet 5 (no really!), and by and large it tries to 'do' analogue in the same way that a JP8000 or Virus or whatever does. Like I said it's considered analogue enough to be on topic at AH, so that's good enough for me. Saying that I admit it's a bit like bringing a knife to a fist fight, but it's up to us to kick him in the bollocks before he gets to use it

"Also shouldn't multi-timbral workstation type analogues be out for the same reason? I was thinking of my ESQ-1 which to my mind still qualifies as analogue (and no, here is not the place to debate that) but it is designed for songwriting and would be too easy."May not be a workstation but my Jupiter 6 is multitimbral and anyone who tries to exclude will encounter a firm trouncing of the bollock

May not be a workstation but my Jupiter 6 is multitimbral and anyone who tries to exclude will encounter a firm trouncing of the bollock I thought yours was an 8 Joe? Anyway a split/layer mode does not a multitimbral synth make. My Roland D10 is multi-timbral and you hereby have my permission to trounce my bollocks if I go anywhere near it for this or any other compo ;D

I`ve actually had a long think about this, and I`ve decided I`m gonna use the Minmoog V, not the OP-X which I was gonna use. I dont own the Mini-Monsta, so the Minmoog V is the next best thing. ;D If I change my mind again, please feel free to give me a slap!!!!!

I'm new, but can I take part too? Haven't decided, which synth to use though...Hmm... Multitracking is allowed, right? - CM
