Damn ! I'm getting an inferiority complex guys, cos all yours sound fantastic so far. Still, I guess it encourages us all to try that bit harder. ;D This is gonna be one hell of a collection of fine stuff when they are all done though !

Thanks Shaun ;D I'll dry me eyes & go and twinkle with my keys some more No seriously, I'm quite pleased with mine so far. Yours Andy's & Colins do sound so good & professionaly made, but it's actualy encouraged me (and maybe others) to do a thorough job with ours, so that must be a good thing all round - right. There certainly is a lot of real musical talent on this forum, thats for sure. ;D

Daniel believe me I might be able to put a few notes together but when it comes putting something in the public domain that isn't a straight cover it doesn't come naturally to me. If I had a cuss box that took me from start to intro and bass line it would have £100 in it now and there is a long way to go. For certain if I can make something sound half decent so can most and you have nothing to prove as the songs you have posted speak for themselves. One of which is firmly implanted into my Mp3 player. Power to the community.

I know just what you mean there Colin. I mainly record whilst wearing headphones & if someone could overhear me, all they'd hear would be the occasional "f*** it", "Oh b*ll*cks !", "f**king thing!" with the occasional "YES YES OH YES !" A swear box would be a good way of saving money towards new equipment actualy ! mmmmm! might do that ;D

Thought I would post my track so far. I should explain that I am doing the drums & bass on my PC using Fruityloops, once this is complete, I will copy it to my 8 track recorder & add some lovely analogue sounds to finish it off. So what I have posted is a shortened version of the drum & bass tracks so far (I have added one synth line for my own guidance). I have used sampled sounds from the CR78 (from La-bouch's excellent sample CD) and also used some sounds from the 808 & 909 drums. All other sounds were created by me using SimSynth (a 3 osc plugin for Fruityloops. The voices are from a text to speach program from Analogue-X, with added sound effects. The drums are close to the original but I have added my own a higher bass riff & a different bass line near the end, which I am quite pleased with so far. I aim to add more sounds & life once I've finished the drum & bass parts. media.putfile.com/MusicNonStopCLIPAny comments welcome (good or bad) ;D

That's the most Kraftwerk sounding of the lot Dan. It actually sounds like a lost Kraftwerk demo of the final track which you can take as high praise.
My only comment so far is that the kick really needs some bite to hold its own with all that thwippery. Give it some snap and a bit of close gated room verb wouldn't do any harm (yes I know its a Kevorkian cliche but who cares - it works) ;D

I,m not into all this "snippet sharing"but this one has totally transformed my take on the comp/bit of fun.

Just a wild guess, but in contrast to the Numan comp, I'm sensing this one won't be anonymous.

Any comments welcome (good or bad) That's a bit nice is that. Put me in a Cabaret Voltaire mood straight away ;D By contrast I have absolutely nothing to offer. If I keep this up I'll be pulling out, and I'd never live that down Here's hoping for a turnaround today...

I just realised what Spoonz's Neon Lights intro clip reminded me of,does anyone remember Shannon's "Let the music play" ? which I must confess I did like that track alot back "in the day".
I'm currently going in 2 directions with my track. And am temtped if I get stuck to try one of my other choices - Metropolis.

Just a wild guess, but in contrast to the Numan comp, I'm sensing this one won't be anonymous. Exactly Joe but that's what this community is about in my opinion. There is no element of competiition as far as I see, just everyone getting stuck in to meet the challenge. The result will be the same. You'll end up with a bunch of non-techno Kraftwerk covers, some of which you'll like, some you wont, but all the fun is in the taking part as far as I can see. I can't even see the point in voting to be honest. I think a thread of reviews when they're all done will be much more useful.

I agree Shaun I think my my own point of view this has taken me in directions I would never have gone otherwise so I'm just pleased to be having something to offer.
Which is best and which is worst doesn't really matter, it's the taking part. The less of a compo it is the more it's likely to attract peolple to have a go. If were honest no one wants to come last and if you thought you had a chance of that you might not enter.
personally If you vote me last I'm gonna throw coffee in all your Polymoogs so i'm confident of second to last.
Daniel I think you have done a very hard thing. Make you track sound instantly Kraftwerk but somehow different. I'm looking forward to this

I totally agree with it not being a competition as such. I've just changed the thread title to "Event" instead of "competition"
I think the idea of reviews is much better than voting.
I'll put up my 2 snippets later today.Probably end up taking bits of both. They are at the moment at a very early stage,I still have the notation to sort out.Just testing out sound texture ideas.
About the old competitions on Afenet, they were fun but we've moved on in some way I think/hope. Afenet has had it's day in my opinion, partly down to Numan's lack of output, partly down to people moving on,and partly down to a high percentage of "airchair warrior" aggressive trolls on there. This site on the other hand is a completely different "kettle of Polymoogs"...

Option 1: No techno he goes... and what's he do, bloody techno Just cos it ain't got 4 on the floor don't mean it ain't tech Just joshin! ;D Kicks a bit wooly, needs a bit more bite on the transient (as per Daniel's). Your delays would sound much better and create more distance and space if you used more HF damping. Option 2: This is my pick mate (the congas didn't do me I'm afraid). Damp that delay again though (go on you know you wanna see if I'm right ). The clip is a bit too short though, not enough for me to get the gist after the percussion whacks in.

oops...actually i thought it was more electro than techno Maybe I should have been more specific,in case anyone has avoided using certain sounds etc,by techno I meant banging house type techno of the techno/trance/Ibiza cheap cover/remix variety of which there are already many Kraftwerk covers... Those were just ideas and I will probably cannibalise a few sounds from them. I will try your advice when I get back in later. What exactly do I do to improve the kick? (kicks are one of my blind/deaf spots).
