THE String Synthesizer responsible for most of the Ultravox string washes and pads! www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-SS-30-RARE-analog-string-synth-CHECKED-AND-SERVICED-/321002742889?pt=Keyboards_MIDI&hash=item4abd412469Super-rare, and at that price I'm kind of wondering if there's something they're not telling us! Hehe, please note that the SS-30 only works with European power supplies, so don't go plugging it in in the States and frying it! I love the sound of the SS-30, very unique and rather polysynth-like. It really doesn't sound like a Solina or an Elka Rhapsody, but rather like CS series Synth SMOTHERED with multi-voice chorus! It also has something that should have been included on other Stringers: "EQ!". Sure it's just a simple "Brilliance" knob, but still.... it can be very warm, or really bright and stark.... If anyone has the money, and loves that classic Vox' sound, this would definitely be a good choice!

This is mine. I'd love to know the answer 100%. We were told it was when we bought it and it certainly looks the part... There were after all not too many around, even in the early 80's.

It's very cool and going to sell ! What about contacting Midge Urine or Billie Currie via FB or tw@tter ? They may confirm it ! We contacted MU through Twitter a few days back with no response so far. I've received an email through eBay from a guy in Australia - he has a photo of Warren Cann's 80's setup and the LM-1 in that is apparently a very early one with engraved buttons, unlike ours. That's not to say that was the only LM-1 they had, or indeed the the one in the photo was actually theirs (not hired, etc).. Ultimately, who knows? It's possible that even UV don't know, definitively, so I'm not too hung up about it. Ours is #0426 out of 500. I wonder how many are left in the world?
