I'll see what I can do. I have no concrete ideas right now, only vague notions. I'd be disappointed to see a compo full of underpass covers though (no dis intended to NJ).
I mentioned to Steve last night that what might be more interesting is to take a song from a later album, something from the Golden Section or Mysterious Ways and give it the minimal 'tronic Metamatic vibe. Might not work though because part of the overall feel of Metamatic is the dark element to the melodies, whereas on later albums, John became quite a cheery soul. Cheerful and uplifting tunes will still sound that way no matter how electro you make them.
Then there's "that voice". I'm far from a confident singer anyway and the thought of trying to sing something JF has already put his glorious tones to is more than daunting, it's just not going to happen. Now I either haver the option of lifting one of his vocals and putting it over my own track... or, (and this is where I'm most intrigued) I could do an electronic dub version, using snippets in tape echo abandon.
Early days yet of course and so many great songs to choose from. Whatever I do though, it won't be the lowest common denominator, (if I can help it).

My current aim is that my one will not be similar to the original at all.
There's a lot of scope for spokals in JF's stuff....
Shaun I think I'd try the track "The Garden" if I was going to do a metamatic-vibe track.Lots of room for expansion.Might consider it.

I wasn't planning to  My Kraftwerk track started as "Das Modell" and turned into the track "Skybound" that was on DFM7. Then I did another version of Das Modell which I ending up hating so had to stop on it. I realised it needed serious stripping down and the beats re-worked.Will get round to it eventually. In the case of JF I have a better idea what want to end up with from the start(I think!) based on the experience of Das Modell. |

Been doing crazy hours working on billboard ads for big tv show,now hoping entering the "quiet period" of the year (2 weeks around now!...) SO hopefully will be back on it soon.
The new double disc version Metamatic is delayed it seems (by the way).For those interested it has never before released tracks on it from the Metamatic period.
